This is a long story: Ok I'm 16 and i finally got a first job working at Mcdonald's. Of course I was excited. When I found out I was on the register I was very, very scared! The second day I was upset because a customer got an attitude with me for no reason. So I talked to my manager and she explained to me this is what fast food resturaunts are like. Basically I had to deal with it. Anyways, i met this guy who works with me. I was sitting in the computer room alone and he asked me if I had a cell. I told him no and asked if he needed a phone. He said he asked so he could text me sometimes. Of course I told him that I just met him and said no. He just said that that's the point. So just for him to leave me alone I told him eventually. I really wasn't thinking; I was stressed from working. Days later work became more easier and less stressful. The guy who likes me constantly stares at me to the point that it's scary. In my mind I'm thinking he's about 19-20. One day I finally ask him how old he is and he tells me 30!!! That was an OMG moment. I had no idea this guy who liked me was 30! I was totally freaking out; I'm only 16. So I haven't told my parents because they would probably tell me to quit my job, but I desparately need one. On top of that I can't tell my managers he's hitting on me beacuse I want to keep a job. What should I do?

  1. mebbe you can transfer to a different mcdonalds or tell you manager about possible sexual harrasment. your a minor and thats not ok at all

  2. Babie...this guy is very creepy and probably even has a criminal record...He's 30 and still working at McD's?  Wow!  He knows you are young and he is totally harrassing you....You need to 1)  talk to the manager, 2)  call/visit burger king or another fast food joint and apply there, since you picked up the work so easily and 3)  just quit...Best of luck to you

  3. Hello Babie_gurl,

Workplace harassment is a major problem. Companies have a legal and moral obligation to provide an environment that is safe and free from harassment and discrimination. The legal definition of sexual harassment by the (EEOC) Equal Employment Opportunity Commission is:

"Unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature constitute sexual harassment...

...when this conduct explicitly or implicitly affects an individual's employment, unreasonably interferes with an individual's work performance, or creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive work environment".

Informing your manager is exactly what YOU should do for two reasons:

    (1) It puts the business on notice that a problem exists

    (2) It protects your rights

This easy read resource will give you for info on how to deal with workplace harassment.

Never be afraid to defend your rights in the workplace that's why they exist! You can learn from the EEOC website at:

    I hope this helps,

  4. I'm sorry that you're in such an uncomfortable situation and work environment.  The other resources provided for dealing with sexual harassment sound as though they can provide some very helpful information.  Truthfully, regarding your job in the fast food industry, they seem to come a dime a dozen and one may find those types of situations where a person may not need a lot of education to land that type of job.  If it were me and I were 16, I would look for another job and get your cell phone number changed.  If ever see him outside of work, one can just say that one is not allowed to text message, only family or something to that effect :)
