I really need to get classes or something to help me learn cantonese. Preferably somewhere near or in Calgary. And it has to be for children too. Well, at least someone 12 years old. ( For my friend's kid ) The cost dosnt really matter. And she is shy so preferably a group class. But if no group classes are available then she can do with individual. Cost does not really matter. And can be usually anytime after 2:30-8:00 .... She is really desperate and she needs it to go on a trip... PLEASE help.... TT_TT

  1. Cantonese is not the major dialect of Chinese, Mandarin is. With that being said it will be difficult to find a class teaching Cantonese. Your best bet is to google "Language schools" in Calgary. I would ask some native Chinese speakers at restaurants if they know of a place that would give lessons.

  2. There a quite a few Chinese schools in Calgary teaching Cantonese. I've heard of at least 3. The most well known is probably the one in the Cultural Centre in China Town called Calgary Chinese Public School. They have weekend classes. Weekdays I'm not sure.

Yes, on the world wide scale, Cantonese is not the major Chinese dialect. But there are a lot more Cantonese speaking Chinese immigrants then Mandarin speaking ones. As a result, most of the kid classes offered by these schools are actually in Cantonese.
