Question:

I did a bicycle race and saw a rider repeatedly throw gel packs on the ground. Should I do anything?

Multiple times, this bozo just throws the plastic packets that gels come in out into the pristine country side this bicycle race was in. Is this somewhat accepted, or is this guy a total dbag? I didn't say anything during the race cause i was so close to bonking and didnt want to lose focus on the race. But now I thinking this putz needs to learn that this isn't acceptable behavior. It makes bicyclists look bad, and its just nasty and unacceptable behavior. Didn't he ever see the commercial where the indian cries?!

  1. it is kind of expected during a race.  even after you've squeazed what you can out of them, those packets continue to ooze gel out.  they will turn you and your bike into a sticky mess in a heartbeat.  i can't see stuffing them back into your jersey to make a mess.

  2. tell the head of the place you were racing in. if he sees it next time he might ban whoever it was.

  3. I've never done a formal bike race, but in running people do this all the time. It's considerate to do it near a water stop ... everyone drops their paper cups after drinking, so tossing some gels in the middle is fine.

If I bike race passes a start/finish on multiple loops, I'd suggest doing that.

Also, frankly I've tossed unwanted stuff on a tough run and then driven back and picked it up.
