  1. you can also get a drawing viewer and draw it again to scale by sections.

  2. When I have a small sketch that I want to enlarge, I take it to the copy shop and have them enlarge it.  They usually can do enlargements up to blueprint sizes. . . plenty big for even the biggest canvases!

  3. Do a graphite transfer. Color the back of the paper in very thick graphite pencil and then retrace your drawing onto the canvas.

  4. Scan it to your computer and print it so that it takes up a few pages (large enough to fit your canvas) and tape the pages together, then trace the image onto the canvas using carbon paper.

Or use the grid method, where you draw a grid on your image and a grid on your canvas and copy each little box individually by eye.

I've had this problem many a time and think I should just carry canvases around with me instead of paper lol

  5. Hi,

One can also use what we call here vegetable paper (I guess it's glassine or architect's paper there). It's that semi-transparent paper.

Now, since you'll have to turn the paper to transfer the charcoal/graphite, you may draw it opposite way i.e. one usually makes the sketch then goes with the glassine paper over the sketch and traces the limit lines with a soft graphite or charcoal. Then turn it over and places over the c anvas, Then go over it with a harder pencil. This will make obviously the work be opposite way. You'd have to start with the work opposite way or pass the softer pencil again on the other side.

Maybe I'm making this too confusing by writing so much, but it's quite simple.

Don't forget to fix the graphite or charcoal (some purists say that one should not use graphite since it has lubricant properties)

    Kind regards,
