I did some reading on Antigua, Guatamala and I wonder how the American residents there like it?

Antigua has changed a lot since the 80s and is now very Americanized. Antigua has a lot of history and it also has many church and convent ruins from the era the Spanish colonized and used Antigua as a capital. So in a nutshell Antigua looks like a Spanish colonial town, but prices are high for residents and cheap for tourists.

If you decide to go to Antigua take a tour of Santa Maria (a neighboring town), Volcan de Agua and Ciudad Vieja, visit La Merced (pay attention to the church's ceiling), Aguas Calientes, and La Catedral de San Jose.

I lived in Antigua from 2003 to late 2006 and had a blast.  The weather is perfect, 80s during the day, 60s at night.  You will have to put on a jacket or sweater in the evening and early morning, but its shirtsleeves all day.  

The city is a very small one, you can walk across it in 20 minutes or so.  Apartments typically run around $350/$500 USD/ month, with utilities around $50 (power/cable/water).  Food prices in the market for fresh vegetables are insanely cheap by US standards.  Potatoes cost about 12cents a lb, things like that.  There is a decent supermarket in town, and you won't really have to leave for much.  There is better shopping in Guatemala City, but you can buy the essentials for daily life.  There is a US VFW post in town, a small library, plenty of volunteer opportunities, etc..   There are cultural events like live music, and even the occasional English language community theater productions.  Movies are shown quite cheaply in some restaurants nightly and there is a lively expat community as well that can show you around.  

The locals are warm and friendly people, but there is a little bit of street crime.  There are small parts of town to avoid late at night, but I don't really know of anywhere that doesn't have that.  I felt safe in all my time there, great place to live.  I returned to the US last year for personal reasons, but I miss it quite a bit and I have great friends still from there and great memories.  Send a message if you have any specific questions on Antigua, glad to help.

I think that they should like it there a lot! ... not only because of the fact that Antigua is such a beautiful and charming place, but because they are still there and many people have grown old there...

First let me tell you that Guatemalan people are also Americans.  AMERICA IS A CONTINENT not a country.

Antigua Guatemala is a wonderful city.  Living in Guatemala is not expensive for US people as the rate of exchange is 7.64 per 1.

The weather is a little bit cold for Winter and warm for Summer.

There are a lot of things to do specially in that area.

There are all kind of food from fast food, traditional food and international food.
