I didn't make the decision based on one series – http://www.senore.com/Cricket/R-Dravid-c2229 – Cricket News Update
The legendary http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 batsman, Rahul Dravid said on Friday that his decision to end his 16-year-long international career was not based on a single series, rather it was a decision that had to come one day, and he thought this was the appropriate time to call
it a day.
He was alluding to the Test series against Australia Down Under, which saw the Men in Blue faltering to their second successive Test series whitewash overseas. While he was the mainstay in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 he could only manage 194 runs in eight innings
at a meagre average of 24.25.
Dravid, who turned 39 in January this year, announced his retirement from international cricket on Friday during a press conference in Bangalore, with the BCCI president N http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Anil-Kumble-c44737 accompanying him. He said that he
would have come to the same conclusion even if he had performed brilliantly in the four-match Test series against Australia.
"Irrespective of how the Australian series would have gone, I had decided to take a call after the series...I would have come to the same conclusion irrespective of what would have happened in Australia,” said the batting veteran.
"These decisions are based on a lot of series and not just on one series. I didn't make the decision based on one series," he insisted.
Prior to the disastrous tour of Australia, the veteran had superb a Test series against the English and the West Indies. During the 4-0 Test series whitewash at the hands of England last summer, the right-handed number batsman compiled a tally of 461 runs
at an average of 76.83, which included three centuries. On his return home, Dravid took the momentum into the home Test series against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, scoring 319 runs in five innings at an average of 63.80.
“I sat down after the Aus series, sat down at home for a month and came to this decision. Very clear in my mind. They have been incredibly supportive," said Dravid.
It is a great loss to cricket, not just to the Indian cricket with Dravid’s retirement.
