Question:

I didn't pass my police polygraph test...have any of you failed and why?

They told me that I didnt follow the examiner's instructions, when I did. They said it was impossible to read the test with accuracy. They told me i could apply again in 1 year....have any of you failed and why

  1. I guess you're out of the "loop"


  2. Really the only reason you fail is because you're too tense and you are hiding something. Maybe they felt that you weren't being 100% honest with them.  

  3. I would say this.. I have worked with a couple polygraphers in my career. They test almost daily. If not daily, a couple times a week so this isn't their first rodeo. They have strict..strict guidelines and instructions to insure the tests are as consistent as possible. If I had to choose between the polygrapher lying about you not following instructions, and you..being new to it..not following instructions, I would say its more likely you didnt follow the instructions to the extent required to get an accurate baseline and result. Don't beat yourself up over it. When you retest next time, try and relax, listen to the instructions and answer truthfully.    

  4. I failed my first one and they rescheduled me for a second one, and i passed. So obviously its not accurate.
