I didn't winterize my boat winter but it's been in a garage. Do I need to do anything before I start it?

Someone said I should fog the cylinders?

My boat is a 1984 Ski Natique. I/O board. Direct Drive.

  1. I dont think fogging would help now, just start it and keep the rpms as low as you can for the first few minutes.

    Make sure you check the fluid and lubricant levels frist and have a water source to the engine.

    I have done this many times and never had any ill effects.

    Unless water remained in the block and froze, otherwise you should be fine.

    If it froze nothign you can do is going to help at this point, it will need repaired.


  2. No, fogging is for the lay-up in the fall, protects the cylinders against rust.

    I/O not winterized. Keep your fingers crossed your block has not cracked. Immediately after the engine has started watch your temp., watch the sides of the block for breakage, and check the engine oil to be sure there is no water in the oil.
