“I didn’t have fun on the Tour”, Bradley Wiggins
Overall winner of the Tour de France 2012, Bradley Wiggins noted that he never really enjoyed the Tour de France because he was not challenged by any rider during the event.
The cyclist remained in the top two spots throughout the race and held the yellow jersey for two weeks continuously.
La Derniere Heure quoted Wiggins as saying, “I didn’t have fun on the Tour. At the Tour everything is so stressful. Everybody was only talking about Twitter, doping and suspicion. After the Tour”.
“I felt relieved and I showed that when I crossed the finish line at the end of the time trial”.
Wiggins’ only major competitor during the French Grand Tour was his own teammate, Christopher Froome, who ultimately finished second after the final general classifications.
Froome fell 3 minutes and 21 seconds short of Wiggins and occupied the second position with Vincenzo Nibali of Team Liquigas-Cannondale finishing further 3 minutes behind at the third spot.
Sporza published that the Brit was more pleased on winning the Olympics Gold on home turf in London which was held ten days after the French Grand Tour.
"The Tour is so stressful,” he said. “Everyone is only interested in Twitter or other doping suspicions. The Tour was mentally an ordeal”.
"But the Olympics is more about the sport itself. There is no doping or other nonsense talk. If you win, everyone is happy for you".
He briefed that winning the Olympics gold is always more worthy because now he will remain an Olympic Gold winner for the next four years, while Tour de France is an annual event.
The 32-year-old is all set to ride the Tour of Britain scheduled next week, which will help in assessing his form ahead of the URI Road World Championships in Holland.
Wiggins intends to ride the road race and will skip the time trial event because he believes that the Tour and the Olympic Games have left him with no juice to ride the time trial.
The British team secured six gold medals during the previous edition of the UCI Road World Championships, with Mark Cavendish claiming the rainbow jersey.
Mark is in supreme form and is all set to defend his title during the 2012 edition of the race and is a pre-race favourite to receive the honours, along with Peter Sagan, Andre Greipel and Matthew Harley Goss.
