This isn't necessarily a question, its more of getting this off of my chest! I have worked at a vet for a long time, during this time I have fostered 100s of kittens because of irresponsible people. If you can not afford to spay or neuter your pet, then please don't get one. They are not disposable and they have feelings just like people. It makes me sick to read all of these my cat is pregnant what do I do questions............YOU SPAY THEM!!! You take them to a doctor when they have medical problems just like you would a child and most of all you just love them! You are the most important person in your pets life so don't just throw them outside or let them run around to get pregnant, be responsible. So many innocent animals are euthanized every year and you need to do your part to prevent it!

  1. I hear you and I agree with you...All my dogs and cats are and always have been spayed/neutered...

KUDOS TO YOU for putting this out there.  There are FAR toooo many unwanted, unloved pets in this world already.  FAR toooo many Innocent furry lil angels being put to death, even starving.  This is something that can be made better.  I'm not one to preach, well not normally anyway.  I do feel strongly about this tho.  It is so sad that hundreds and hundreds of Innocent cats and dogs are being put to sleep, oh h**l, killed.... Every Single Day in this country because people will not spay/neuter there cat or dog.  How very, very sad...   PLEASE WAKE UP PEOPLE...

    You can make a difference

  2. YOU R SO VERY RIGHT! I cannot stand people who dont take responsibility as a pet owner. I have rescued 5 cats, who were just strays, the people moved & leave them behind to fend for themselves. I have a myspace page *& it is dedicated to educating people on pet over population. There r just not enough HOMES. It is truly sad & i hope that someday everyone will see what a true problem this is. Most animals r not adopted when put into shelters, because there lazy *** owners just dont have the time anymore to deal with them. It is inexusable in my book to ever take your pet to a shelter. If you get a pet it is a lifelong commitment. I appreciate meeting people who feel as strongly as i do!

  3. obviously... but it costs money to get them spayed like 200$ each and there is no low cost clinic here where i live. ive looked and looked. well now youre thinking you should just take them to a shelter? because in most shelters they kill animals and no kill shelters they keep them in cages.. theyre better off inside in a house. i think a lot of these people just pick up a stray cat from the outside and start to feed it and consider it 'theirs'. a lot of people just do what they can not everyone is just negligent. i think if you take a cat in and you have the money to fix them you should do it. just another point of view.

  4. Please don't be upset. What you are experiencing is a problem that is happening nationwide which is a lack of access to low cost spaying and neutering and innoculation for cats and its because the counties do not have enough money to provide this service and the low cost programs that are avialable are so fragmented and un-publicized that it is a labrynthian task to find a program where you may get your pet fixed. Many people are on a tight budget more now than before.

Also, It is not necessarily the fault of humans so much as that the reproduction rate of cats is so enormous that I must get THIS off my chest:

I moved to this area a year ago with my 3 very old cats, who are all fixed, inoculated etc.  Immediately I noticed 4 kittens playing in teh back yard and determined to trap and get them fixed. I was only successful in trapping 2 of them. 1 of the other 4 either died or ran off .One grew up and I STILL cannot CATCH him in the trap!!!!

These are feral cats.  I have captured 3 litters ofkittens since that time that I have given to SPCA in No.va and they have been adopted out. Do I know whether they were ever fixed?? I can't be sure.  and I sure cannot catch all the feral cats around here to be spayed either. so you see, it is not just the humans that are the source of the problem here. and I have spent over 1,200 in my endeavors to fix these cats. I have fixed 9 of them. but now there are 10 more that need to be trapped. One just gave birth and I brought her in here. I have to take her to the vet and she will be fixed by SPCA in 5 weeks. Over time I have beeen lucky enough to be taken in by 2 non-profits who are fixing these kittens for me as I can catch them so I am very lucky in that respect.

I would definitely promote SPAY INC. as an information resource to those that need low cost spaying services.  1-800-SPAY USA. wsa the last # I knew. but can be googled "SPAY INC.".  this is a great resource for me.

  5. There are many programs out there offering low cost spay and neuter.  In the DFW area, we have SNYPS which has deals with local vets to do the spays/ nueter from $25- $60 depending on breed and s*x.  You can also check with the local SPCA for clinics that will do low cost "fixin".

  6. Yes, I agree entirely. Both my pets are spayed or neutered. There are way too many homeless animals. The last thing we need is more unwanted pets that will be euthanized, just because some people are too careless to have their pets fixed.

  7. I agree that if you don't want kittens/puppies then get your pet done but some people would like to have a litter and i don't see anything wrong with that if all the kittens/puppies find good homes. I wanted my cat to have kittens and i only got her spayed because i didn't want her getting an STD. Although I do think that male cats should be nuetered anyway so that there is less chance of them wondering too far to find a female.

  8. right on girl. Right on.

  9. You go girl !!!.. I hear ya !!! and agree...

  10. Well well well... someone's one a soap box.  Well, I get all my cats from the pound except Ricky and he was neutered three months ago after he got hit by a car and had to go to the vet anyway.  Evey was at PetsMart after she was dropped off at the pound with her brothers and sister.

The cat that I asked a question about before is feral and takes most of her residence in my backyard.  She won't come anywhere near me... so I can't get her spayed until after she is done with this litter.

Some people ant the kittens but just don't know what to do about the kittens yet.

I agree with you that they should be spayed or neutered. It helps them to live longer and they have overall better lives, plus it makes the owner's life easier as well.
