  1. use google to find the company's ticker symbol.  so type <company name> ticker.

then find any of the million sites that provide historical pricing.  you can even check the wall street journal or business section of regular newspapers.   in the case of newspapers, i dont' think you even need ticker symbols (which are 3 or 4 letter identifiers of a company'stock...for ex:  IBM's ticker symbol is IBM;  Apple's is AAPL) because stocks are listed in alphabetical order.  then just look at the market price and that's how much each share is worth.

if you go to bloomberg.com or yahoo finance, enter the ticker symbol and you'll get pricing info that easily.  multiply the pricer per share times the number of shares owned and that's how much your holding is worth.   make sure to check to see if any splits occurred, which would affect the share price.  a 2:1 stock split cuts the stock price in half, but also gives each shareholder double the number of shares held.  so the net effect is pretty much zero.  but you need to know this info.  just google the ticker and the word "stock split".

like another commenter mentioned, whoever is 'managing' the account should provide you with quarterly or especially annual statements showing account value.  are you not getting these?  do you know which company the account is with?  or did the shares get purchased straight from the company itself?   what's the deal there?

if you want, email me for more info.

  2. If you bought it through a broker you should be recieving a statement periodically. If you are not, call them and ask why. If you bought it through an online broker you should have an online account. If not go to the website and make one. Once it is made log in and you should be able to access your holding information. If you bought a stock certificate from a gentleman out of the trunk of his corvette, you likely got scammed.
