http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nicolas-Lombaerts-c27825 has hailed Zenit St. Petersburg’s latest win in the Russian Premier League against FC Krasnodar at Kuban stadium on Sunday
Zenit St. Petersburg moved to the 4th spot on the Russian Premier League table after recording a 2-0 win over FC Krasnodar on the away turf. As things stand, they are trailing league leader, Anzhi Makhachkala, by five
points.
The fact that the defending league champions managed to record their first league win since their 3-0 win against Mordovia Saransk back in August gives Nicolas Lombaerts a reason to cheer, who has urged the Russian outfit to extend
their impressive run.
Lombaerts played the respective tie wearing a mask in order to avoid a serious injury to the damaged cheek bone. However, Lombaerts is of the belief that he does not consider himself a super hero by applying the mask on his face.
The former Gent player went on to admit that the St. Petersburg club were lacking confidence on the pitch after a series of disappointing results. The Belgian defender urged his teammates to work harder, hoping that the latest
win will put them back on track.
The Meshki claimed the much needed three points after drawing back-to-back league games against Krylia Sovetov Samara and Lokomotiv Moscow before losing against Terek Grozny.
Zenit, meanwhile, are still looking for their first win in the UEFA Champion’s League after suffering defeats in the opening two group stage matches against Malaga CF and AC Milan respectively.
“I felt a great relief when we scored. I think we were not too lucky but we took our chances well. So, this is a great result for us after a series of failures.”
“In previous games, everything went against us. We were lacking the finish despite creating moments in the game. CSKA failed to score despite creating opportunities but we used our, that was the difference.”
“I played despite injury but I have time to recover now. I want to be fully prepared for the next game, that's what's really important for me at the moment.” The Belgian Cup winner was quoted as saying.
Zenit will now play their next match against Kuban Krasnodar at Petrovsky stadium.
