Question:

I do not know what career I want, nor what I should major in?

When I left high school I was going to go into Theatre as a major but instead went in as undecided.

I still want to do theatre but I have always felt the need to learn several languages. Not just one or two, several and I believe that in order for me to accomplish this in college I would have to give up theatre because to take theatre as a class would require a lot of time and effort. Just like learning several languages.

I am not sure if I should give up one of these goals or if I could even incorporate both.

Could someone help me put it all into perspective?

  1. Here is an idea. Your freshman year, just take a variety of courses. some theater, some language, and any other GDR's you can fit in. Experiment with course loads and extracurriculars. If you are really ambitious, you could always double major. Another idea would be to pick one (theater or languages) and major in that, then you can go to grad school for the other or just study one as a hobby.

one thing that might help you pick what you want to study would be to have in mind what kind of career you want to do. do you plan on acting professionally? do you plan to be an interpreter? Think about how will you use whatever major you go with.

most colleges and universities have an academic dean or guidance department that can help you pinpoint your strengths and lead you on the right path. I know i benefited greatly from going to see the dean at my school!

best of luck to you. college is tons of fun and more than just school and learning. make friends, get involved, and dont stress!!!
