(the theory is answering questions on terminology, concepts, history, and so on, to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the art)

the theory is very important and if you can't remember or know facts then when you get to wanting to grade (change belts) to the highest belt (black belt) and you don't know your theory you can't grade

i need a way of remembering random facts about tae kwon do and i don't know how

any help?

the theory is stuff like:

name, number of moves, and history of the patterns (a set series of moves connected together)

move names in korean and english

stance names in korean and english

meanings of colours of belts

and other stuff like that

i'm gonna be changing belts in about a month and a half but i need to know them in a month

any help PLEASE???

  1. The best way to remember any thing is to form associations in your mind and try to get interested in the topic. Do a goggle search of the name of the form and you will find a lot of associated things about that name and this will create more ways for your mind to make the memories recall-able. The only other thing is also tedious. Write out the information multiple times repeating it out loud. Do this quietly so as to not make those around you want to kill you. It is how I got through it.

  2. learning anything is difficult if you dont like it. i had a hard time remembering tae kwon do terminology.

when i was learning chinese history for my kung fu it was easy for me because i was actually interested. it gave me a better appreciation of where the arts come from and how they developed, and why they are the way they are. all interesting to me.

but if you do not care what the korean names are, or details about your techniques, then you will never truly know your art.

i say suck it up and study :)

  3. I just learn them !! i learn everything in english first then think of words that sound like the moves eg.  Rising Block - Chookyo Makgi i say chuck you make its silly but helps!

i have a mnemonic for the Tenets

The belts are easy just learn the main colours (in order) and attach the two either side together, hope that makes sense
