I don't agree with my babies pediatrician.

When I last brought her in I showed him the yellow blotches on her head, He said it is just dry skin and try to pick it off. I told him ..."but it's yellow". He said it will go away around 11-12 months.

I think it is yeast or some kind of bacteria. I am NOT going to pick it off! Doctors don't know a lot about yeast.

What do you think?

  1. He went to school for 8 years....give him some credit.

  2. Not all baby oil is a petroleum product, Burts Bees makes a nice oil that is food based and smells very nice.  Yes, cradle cap (or c**p as my mom calls it) can be yellow and it's incredibly common.  It's not bacteria or a yeast, and no treatment for bacteria or yeast will help it.  However, using an oil briefly to loosen the skin flakes before washing the scalp with baby shampoo can help a great deal in appearance.  You don't need to do anything, it just looks bad - the baby is fine.

Yeast or bacteria.  Geez, let an expert speak to that (the pediatrician).  If it were bacteria it'd smell bad, yeast has it's own smell.  Cradle cap smells like baby, since it's just their skin peeling.

  3. i would not pick at my baby's head either. But what you are describing sounds like cradle cap. Rub baby oil on it and gently scrub it then wash normally. Repeat this daily until its gone. It should only take a time or two. And yes cradle cap can be yellow, and in blotches and you can pick it off. And it can take months for it to resolve on its own. But thats all not necessary.

  4. Do the blotches bother her in any way ? My kid had that for serveral months but it was harmless and then it went away when we had her head shaved for the first time, when she was about a year old.

I dont think you need to worry about it as long as it doesnt spread or bother her in any way..

Ofcourse, dont try to pick it away !

  5. Cradle cap is often yellow. I didn't think you were meant to pick it off but I have no medical training, so don't know. I have seen babies with yellowy cradle cap though so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

  6. Then tell him that. He may be the doctor, but tell him straight up you are not going to pick skin off your babies head, and that they need to check it out a little more.

  7. Paediatricians don't just drink at college you know, some of them do actually learn about babies.

It's cradle cap. It's very common. It is just dry skin. It is often yellow/brown in colour.

Bacteria generally don't grow on skin, and if your baby had an infection you'd see other symptoms.

I don't know what you mean about yeast growing on someone....

Not all doctors know everything, but they are the ones that went to med school when you didn't. Listen to them.

  8. sounds like cradle cap!  my daughter had it really bad, on her head and forehead.  I lightly put baby oil on it and gently wiped it off and it was gone!

  9. My baby just turn 6 months and he also had the yellow blothes but there all gone know i use the baby oil and helped but if wish  to use something alse that would work as well. Im not sure what it is sorry but im sure its nothing bad.

  10. It sounds like cradle cap to me. My daughters both got it when they were younger and my youngest did have yellow spots like that it is kind of crusty looking. And I did bathe her. Kids just get this. How old is your baby?

Neutrogena makes a T-Sal shampoo that is great for this but I would NOT put it on an infant. My daughter got cradle cap off and on until she was about 3, but she had a full head of curly hair by one so it was not as noticeable. I used the shampoo (recommended by my sister) and it cleared it up completely. Before that I just washed her hair and let it be. I did scrub it off a couple times but it always got really red and of course she fussed. I hated the idea of greasy oil all over her so I let it run its course and kept it washed and it did go away in time.

  11. Its called cradle cap, its a mixture of the baby's own oils and soap that was not rinsed well when bathed. Don't panic its perfectly normal and most babies get it. Next time you wash your baby's hair use a little more pressure when scrubbing ok, Dont scrub it like you would the pots and pans but a little scrubbing won't hurt. You can even use the baby's hair brush (soft bristles)..
