I'm moving to Canada pretty soon and realized that guys/girls my age drink for fun and go to bars n stuff...I can't drink due to religious reasons and don't really wanna try alcohol..i don't even smoke.

I don't wanna be considered a social outcast..what're the alternatives? any help is appreciated.

  1. canada is a pretty diverse place. trust me u will meet cool people who don't drink and will appreciate your values. as a high school student u will think ure a social outcast becasue of the different cliques but why are you letting those people judge you. trust you do not want to end up in their place. u'll b fine, stop worrying.!

  2. I never drank or smoked.  Disgusting habits.  Here's what you do, YOU be the designated driver.  And here's the kicker, you CHARGE them for it.  Not a lot, let them pay your cover charge and all the cherry cokes you can drink all night and be sure to steer them toward the bars with food for happy hour.   If you take your car, they pay gas.  Make it worth your time to hang out it in a smoky smelly bar full of idiot drunks.

  3. I'm 17 too and i don't (never have never will) drink or smoke-- mainly becuz drinking and smoking has been shown to make people either age faster, or make them less desirable look-wise (< i know MANY examples of this!!!)--- drinking is also a leading cause of death, so...

  4. President Calvin Coolidge once invited friends from his hometown to dine at the White House. Worried about their table manners, the guests decided to do everything that Coolidge did. This strategy succeeded, until coffee was surved. The president poured his coffee into the saucer. The guests did the same. Coolidge added sugar and cream. His guests did, too. Then Coolidge bent over and put his saucer on the floor for the cat.

So better to be yourself in most of the cirumstances.

If you don't drink and never smoke that doesn't make you a social outcast but if you intentionally miss those healthy fun you will definately be considered as a social outcast. So don't try to miss the parties and picnics with the good people because they are the ways of living a happy life. Make good friends who are just like you then you will never feel that you are different.

  5. Continue to be a light to those around you -  lead by example. If you find yourself in a crowd that does those things, find another crowd. On the other hand, be friendly and don't look down your nose at people who do. That's no way to let your light shine. Pray that God places you right where he needs you to be and you'll be fine. Remember, you're not supposed to be part of the world. Being popular isn't what's ultimately important. I know that's a hard concept for a 17 year old, but you cannot compromise your beliefs to fit in. Have a great year!

  6. h**l NO~!!! that's good you don't drink!

    especially since you're only 17

    especially since you're a student

especially since you're honoring your religious beliefs!!

I don't drink, and I never have... but just cause I don't want to. Some might consider you a social outcast, but don't give in to peer pressure. The other day I went to a bar (cause my friends were going) and I just ordered "just a coke".

They have coke & you can mix it with rum.. but mine didn't have rum. So, it looked like I was still drinking to people that didn't know.

Watch your cup carefully, there are people that like to slip stuff into your drink, so.. just go & be yourself! good luck~ I admire you for your choices

  7. of course not

  8. Make excuses like ill be the designated driver and i gotta test tomorrow or just dint worry about it cause your moving to Canada.
