I am also anemic so that doesn't help. Currently I eat poultry but not a lot because I'm so used to not eating most meat that I only have chicken or fish a few times a week. Right now I'm trying to get on track by taking a multi-vitamin. However, I still feel like I need to be doing more. Any suggestions on snacks or quick meals that I can eat. To be a full vegan one day is ideal but I feel right now it's not in my budget. Any advice will help. :-)

  1. I'm also in the same boat as you! I try to be vegan, but my budget doensn't allow me the freedom of being one, and also because my family ARE NOT vegan, so I have to cook to feed a family, not myself.

I am also anemic and I do eat poultry and fish. If anything, I would tell you that taking iron pills, would help with being anemic. I had a blood test done recently, and my anemia isn't as severe. You can get iron pills, even the generic type, at the food store/drug store and they work just fine. Generic doesn't mean it works less!

You can also take a prenatal pill. They also sell those at drug stores/food stores and generic brands. Take those, according to the box, but be warned, you might have to deal with nausea, but it doesn't happen to everyone. Just take one or two before bed and just sleep off the nausea. The prenatal pill ensures that you get ALL the essential vitamins your body needs. Even if you're not pregnant.

You didn't specify what multi-vitamin you took, otherwise I'd know how much it is. But taking the generic brands of iron and prenatal pills shouldn't run you more than $10.

Be warned tho, even though you may choose this lifestyle, you have to put your health first. If the doctor says you need more iron and the pills don't work, you might want to break the lifestyle for a couple days because iron is very important.

    Good luck sweetie!

  2. there is no nutrients in red meat that a vegan diet cant give you.

  3. IRON! you should talk to a doctor...

  4. Red meat is not needed for good health and neither is any other meat.  FYI..being vegan is less expensive than eating chicken and fish.

  5. first off talk to your doctor or someone who can do a chemical blood test, or a test to see what chemicals are in your system and what nutrients you have.

they will tell you what you are lacking in your system and what you might want to eat more of in order to become vegan.

if not,  make sure your multivitmans and vitimans tablets have folic acid in them so your bady can absorb the nutrients.

  6. i know you shouldnt probly take advice from me, but i thin k it might be b-12. iron maybe, too.
