Question:

I don't feel like I'm sprinting 100%?

Hi. I have to sprint the 100m tomorrow, so quick answers would be appreciated. Whenever I sprint in important events, I feel that I'm going quite slow, compared to what I am capable of. But while I am sprinting, I don't feel that I can do anything to make myself go harder. Any tips? It's quite hard to explain, so sorry if it's unclear.

Also, I've been trying to change my technique to give me a longer stride length, than just sprinting naturally and letting my body do what it does, but it feels slower to me - any suggestions on which technique to take?

Finally - out of Nike Shox and astroturf trainers, which would be better to sprint in? I know spikes are better, but I haven't been able to get a pair.

Thanks

  1. Just go ahead and take anabolic steroids.  You deserve it.  It'll make you run faster, harder, longer, and with less effort.  It'll make all your athletic dreams come true!!!  Good luck and if you are still having a hard time sprinting, give me a call.

  2. run on your toes and bring your knees up. make sure that your arms are not crossing your body, that's just wasted motion. also, keep your chin up.

  3. Shoes - depends on the surface and grip, maybe the astroturf ones might be better, however also consider which are lighter (every little helps)

Hows your start - not much you can alter there but make sure you get it spot on.

Focus on crossing the line and beating the guys either side of you

Not much I can say about your technique though without seeing how you run - your trainer can do that.

Long strides is good, you cover more ground with each one so have fewer footsteps

  4. sounds to me like there is a potential for over-training if you are coming up to competition time and having problems picking yourself  up. How many times do you train? how long for each session? Do you taper before a competition?

If you do not think it is over training another common problem is to mistake forced exertion equaling more power output and thus more speed. By forced exertion what I mean is you having your shoulders tensed up and maybe gritting your teeth. When you run make sure you stay relaxed - try to concentrate on making sure your shoulders are relaxed and that you have the minimal amount of tension in your body.  A good way to know your relaxed is that you will feel your cheeks 'bouncing' up and down(check out a slow motion replay of any top level sprinter to see what I mean)

If you like post up your training program and Ill have I look at it/

  5. get a pair of running spikes, I know they take about 15 seconds off of my mile time, they will take up to .5 of a second off of yours good luck tommorow, enjoy it because it only last for 10 seconds.
