I don't find this comforting, do you? Scientists' new theory on the cause of SIDS?

scientists are now speculating that sids may be linked to an imbalance in serotonin the brain chemical. they are also basically saying that there is nothing to do to prevent SIDS, that it's a real disease, and beyond the parents' control, and this should "reassure" those who lost their babies to SIDS. well to the rest who didn't this isn't comforting at all! I'm 3 days overdue so my baby isn't even here yet but I already am reading/learning about how to prevent SIDS, and to think some babies are born with that disposition like they're "destined" to die from it just horrifies me. I don't find that comforting news at all, do you? Besides, it may not even be true and I hope it's not.

  1. The best article I read on sids and that actually made since was this.... All babies have reflexes most are born with them but some take time to develop.... There is one reflex that they theories sids babies haven't developed yet. To check for the reflex you hold your hand over babies mouth and nose, gently but close enough that the baby has to fight a little to get air. Most babies will turn their heads or display some type of movement to try to get more air, but some babies just sit there like nothing has changed the theory is the ones that just sit there haven't developed the reflex and are at a greater risk for sids..... My kids all had the reflex but my sister-in-law's didn't. It makes perfectly good since that without this reflex a child could become a victim of sids easier than one with the reflex................

  2. Let's take a look at what SIDS stands for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. There's always things that doctors will tell you to prevent something and they probably work, but there's no way to be sure it's 100 percent effective you can't worry about things that are beyond your control otherwise it's going to tear you up inside.
