It says 1 point per "thumbs up" but every time i do that, it doesnt work. please expaine if you know. thx!

You are aware that the are talking about receiving thumbs up and not giving them.

It says that you get a point for every thumbs up you get on a "best answer" -- that means your answer has to be chosen by either the asker or the community as the best answer.
