  1. The front of the compressor is constantly being spun by the serpentine belt, but it is a matter of wether or not the clutch is engaged on the compressor. When the clutch is engaged, the compressor puts a load on the serpentine belt, thus putting more load on the crankshaft. The increase in load lead required more power to maintain the desired engine speed from the driver to maintain a certain speed. This increase in power requires more fuel.

It is not a substantial amount of extra fuel needed, but it is better to use the A/C when driving down the freeway. Leaving the windows open at high speeds, increases the drag of the vehicle. Then the whole problem with increased load on the engine comes into play again.

  2. This is pretty common. Most body shops I have delt with in my business do not charge a/c systems. Take the vehical to a station that charges a/c systems. You need to have the system vacumed to replace the coolant. You wont have much luck if you buy a couple cans of r134a and try to do it yourself. The compressor wont be running open and the system will need to be vacumed anyways.

  3. roll down the windows!!!

  4. no cheap solution, but this is the solution:

    1. change the compressor

    2. change the condensor

    3. refill the CFC.

    4. change the filter.

in indonesia, it will costs about rp 3 - 5 million (approx 300$-500$)

  5. they didn't refill your a/c with refrigerant or fix it
