I don't have a basement, I have the crawlspace, to get down you need to use a ladder, how do I save my dog?

My dad said that if there was a tornado on Beil-air, we should go down to the cross space, if we are home alone. We are home alone for a hour after we get home. So, if there was a tornado when we are home alone, how do I take care of dog, and turtle? Should I go next door since they have a basement? What do I do if we see a tornado while we are running to my grandpa's house?

Usually the safest place in a home without a basement in a tornado is the bathtub.  Climb in the tub with a mattress over you.  Check with you neighbor before you get a tornado to see if you can go to his basement(and what do you do when no one is home).  If you are on your way to grandpa's and are overtaken by a tornado. find a low spot like a roadside ditch and lay flat.  You community should have information about shelter locations, you can also ask at your school.

During severe weather, there will be chaos.  You want to try to avoid running to grandpa's house with a dog & turtle during a tornado unless the twister is far enough away that conditions haven't gone downhill yet.  The dog may not understand what is going on & he/she may panic, then run off.  If that would happen, save yourself & pray your dog makes it through.  Chasing your dog can put you into danger.

You are better off to have a box, container, or kennel ready by the opening to the crawlspace or have your dog in a harness.  Attatched it to a sturdy rope to your dog or its container & lower it into the bottom of your crawlspace.  Then, wait out the storm in a corner away from the storm & any openings.  Good luck!!

It seem strange you need a ladder to enter the crawl space or is it a cross space.  Leave the dog and turtle in the house.  Do not go into the neighbors basement unless you know they are not murderers or s*x offenders.

Ask your neighbor if you can come to their house if there is a tornado warning. Ask them ahead of time so you know it is alright to go there when the time comes.
