Question:

I don't have a dial tone on any of my phones in the house, and there's no dial tone at the NID either.

My phones inside my house suddenly stopped working a couple days ago (I realized something was wrong when I didn't get a single call one day.) I tested my phone at the Network Interface Device and there is still no dial tone. (It sounds like the same as the phones inside my house with random bursts of dial tone for a couple seconds and then silence). I know that it doesn't have anything to do with inside wiring; but I don't want to call the phone company in case I do have to pay for outside repairs. (and the problem is not due to unpaid bills). What should I do?

  1. no dialtone from the Network Interface (AKA Demarc), then it is a central office problm if you have disonnected the phones on your side of the demarc.. Do you have "talk battery"? if so, then you know you have a connection to the CO, if no talk battery, it is a break somewhere.

you describe a CO problem or even a bad circuit pack in the SLC bank.

  2. If you want it repaired you are going to have to call the phone company.
