  1. When my friends play golf by themselves they always make sure to take their "magic pencils" and their "foot wedges" to escape from those d**n trees.

Then they come and tell me they had one over even though they play off 15! (No joke!)

I play golf by myself all the time but you cant play in a comp on the weekend by yourself, they won't allow it.

  2. It is fine to play on your own, and nobody would think different about you than if you were playing in a 2ball, 3ball or 4ball.

Your not allowed to play in competitions on your own, you need to be with at least one other player (some clubs may say 2other players)

I have played golf on my own a few times, but I find I get pretty bored very quickly and I don't take my time around the green therefore I start to give myself longer putts because I know I can sink them (when you can miss anything at the end of the day)

Therefore when I'm on my own I just practice with a bag of balls around a green.

It you start to play enough people will notice and may ask you to join up.

If you ever see somebody one their own or even 3people, just ask if its ok to join up with them so you aren't on your own.

This way you will either find a group to play with everytime or at least you will be mixing it up.

I used to play with just 2other people and through playing, and staying down the clubhouse after we just got to know everybody.

Golf is a very social game, there is no problem on your own but if you wish to play with other people then you will have to ask when you see people waiting etc, the worst that can happen is they say they are in a hurry.

I bet 9 out 10 people you ask will be more than happy letting you play

  3. nothing wrong with playing with yourself . i do it regular but how do you prove when you have a birdie?

  4. It's perfectly fine.  You can show up at a golf course, and tell the starter that you're playing alone, most often he/she will pair you up with other people.  Sometimes they will let you play alone if the course is not crowded.

  5. My course isn't that busy in the evenings and I frequently play by myself.  I will usually use that time for practice rounds and hit three to six balls per hole.  I will, however, try and join another person or group if possible as it does get boring round after round by myself.

  6. It is fine to play golf by yourself I am frequenly a single when I play, though if the course is busy that day they will try to pair you up with someone or put you in a group which is also fine and a good way to shre your love of the game.

  7. I normally play 18 in a comp in the mornings followed by 18 by myself in the evening.

Playing by your self is another way of practising.

People will respect you for practiceing.

    It is not wierd.

  8. Nothing wrong with going it alone.  It will allow you to concentrate better and perfect your game.

You will get chatting to other players eventually, and you can play with them for fun or in club tournaments.

To get a handicap, you will need to complete 3 full rounds with another member.  This will allow you to enter the local tournaments.

  9. Typically courses will, if they can, pair you up with another group of golfers.  It may be a twosome our a twosome with another single.

Personally I prefer playing alone, but it is that rare occasion.

As you can imagine, it is in the club's financial interest to have you playing with another group.  Plus, a boatload of singles on the course can completely s***w up pace of play.
