  1. 98 Acura CL

    98 Ford Mustang V6

    98 Honda Accord or Civic

    98 Nissan Frontier or Pathfinder

    98 Subaru Impreza or Legacy

98-00 Toyota Corolla or Echo 00

  2. I bought a Lumina LTZ two years ago for $2000.  Since then it has driven across the country twice, I've had to replace the starter and do normal maintenance.  Oh, by the way did I mention it had 110K when I bought it, and now has 147K?

Look for an older General Motors car -- Chevy Pontiac or Buick with the 3.8 6 cyl engine.  If the engine has been even halfway maintained it is good for 200K and you will get 31mpg highway.  Lumina Eurosport, Lumina LTZ, Pontiac Bonneville, Oldsmobile Intrigue.

It is hard right now to find a good import in that price range but you might look for a Mitsubishi Gallant or Hyundai Sonata.  Both are fairly decent...Good luck

  3. You should expand the places you are looking. Here is an article that has some suggestions for other places you can look:

    Good luck.

  4. That's not much money to work with....

Just get a high mileage Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla. If they're in good condition, they can easily run over 200k miles with little problems.

  5. You can get a good car for way less than $3,000 at a car auction. I got my first car from an auction and it was great, had a sunroof and everything.
