I made a tube dress with my own pattern made from my own measurements. I just took measuring tape and went around my bust, my waist and my hips, split the measurements in half to make a flat pattern at 16"-14.5"-20. I sewed it up put it own and the dress fits pretty d**n good everywhere except for under the b*****s. I have some extra fabric there. Well I have extra in the back too but I don't mind, it looks kinda neat.

The question I have is how to get rid of this extra fabric under my b*****s? Where should I take out the fabric? My first though was to create darts, I tried seeing how that would look by pinching the fabric, but it doesn't work. Please help if you understand what I am saying and have a solution.

Thanks!

  1. Darts would be the way to go.  Draw a skinny "v" under each breast, with the point of the "v" starting barely under the nipple area, and sew those up then attach the top part to the skirt part when you have the dart made.

  2. you could try adding a belt=either from the same fabric=make a snake tube and trun insde out and iron flat- or an already existing belt of any type-wide ones are popular That would draw down some excess fabric and create more fitting under the chest area. other wise for darts, put on dress inside out, have a fam member or girlfirend pin the darts so youll know exactly how it will look , then take off carefully, sew the darts and try on again to see if its enough, re do if needed. you need that extra person in order to get anywhere

  3. I don't know if this would work (It will all depend on the type of fabric and how much extra fabric needs to be taken up), but you might try using elastic. It would gather the dress under the bust. The easiest thing to use would be bias tape to make the casing for the elastic, and you can get it at Wal Mart. I wouldn't put the elastic all the way around, just from under one arm to the other ,right under the bust (kind of like how some baby doll style shirts are gathered). You would sew the bias tape on the inside of the dress leaving each end open. Then use a safety pin to pull the elastic through the casing, just like a pair of draw string pants. Make sure to tack the elastic at one end so you don't pull it all the way through. You can pin the elastic on each end, and play around with it to see how much you want the fabric gathered. Then just hand tack or sew it on the machine to keep the elastic in place. Depending on what type of fabric you used to make the dress, if you don't like the way it looks you can use a seam ripper and remove the casing.

  4. from the inside of the dress sew in a couple of pleats.

look at a pleated skirt or shirt before you start.  good luck

  5. Darts will work, check out some patterns and you will see there are all different types of darts you can use! Find the one that looks the best and use it!

    Good Luck!
