  1. I like to tell anyone  starting with new  pet  they should  get information to learn about that pet  from library, on line  or  purchase  guide book at  pet supply busness.  Any pet can become  ill , so knowing  symtoms  in time may help save it.  Some things can be  home  treated other  may need fast  vet  care.  Dont  rush picking the  hamster,  try get  one that  doesnt  panic  when  touched or  has  been  tamed.  It  take  daily handling  to tame  them.Ask  questions  of  sales  persons.   Ask its  age  and  how  long  they  live.   Ask  about  correct  cage  needs  and  how  to clean  cage. Correct  foods,  toys.   Good  luck.

  2. I never took my hamsters to a vet but its good to have money if you have to take them.  Think it over first.

  3. Rodent don't generlly need a vet check up, but if you see something unnormal, or they stop eating, then the need a cheack up, but they are not like dogs or cats, they don't need flea meds or rabies shots. Also some vets won't take rodents, other than bunnies, so if you do need a vet most people go to an exotic animal vet. Hope this helps. It is okay to get them from a pet store, as long as ALL the hammys look healthy, and their cage is clean. Before you decide to get a hamster though, you should do TONS of research, to see if hamster are right for you and if you can meet their  needs.

  4. yea, thats good=] hamsters dont need reg checkups or shots, BUT if they sem to be sick they need to go, so its good youd pay the money=]

  5. yes definitely but you might want to think about getting one from a shelter, or a breeder, as a shelter one would be checked already for health, and a breeder would have less chance of sickness, or at least make sure the one you get is extra healthy, cause if you get them from pet stores they can have sicknesses, :)

  6. Most vets won't see hamsters anyway.

  7. hamsters are not usually taken care of like that. they usually just let them die, or give them away or let them loose, which is really cruel. i had some but i can't ever remember them getting sick. they escape a lot

  8. Yes, totally. Hamsters are some of the easiest pets to take care off. You feed them give them water provide them with shelter and they rarely get sick if you take care of them. They don't require any regular vet check ups like dogs or cats so don't worry about that...and rarely do they have any emergencies as long as you are taking care of the.

I have dogs, ferrets...had hamsters, squirrels, birds, lizards...etc.

  9. Yea, go for it!  Just make sure you take care of it and change the bedding in the cage as often as it needs.  And food and water of course!  I had a hamster that lived for 6 years and I didn't take it to the vet once.

  10. well i have a hamster and idk!

  12. I've had many hamsters and I've never had regular check-ups, even with pregnant ones. They are pretty self sufficient. As long as they are getting the proper diet and exercise, they should be fine.

  13. I bred rats, mice, and hamsters for years.  Keep them clean, watered, and on a well balanced diet, keep their teeth trimmed with plenty of chewing supplies, check their bodies regularly for tumors or parasites, keep a journal of what's 'normal' for your pet, and you won't need vet checkups.

If your pet gets ill, then you can go in for the visit.  But with the above care, most likely your small animal will never need to see a vet in his lifetime.  Buy a good book.

  14. Yopu can still get a hamster, they dont get sick very often.  I have had hamsters for a logn time and my mom woukld NEVER bring them to the vet.  She doesnt even bring my cat for a check up!!!  You're hamster will be fine.

If your hamster does get sick, look it up online im sure you can easly do something yourself.  Like my hamsters eye was shut once and I got and eyedropper and shes all better :D
