I was working at a bakery shop (general) now I am changing my job to a quite big clothing department. They want me to describe any other work related skills, experiences or training that would be valuable for them to know in relation to the position being applied for. (I applied for sales associate or general merchandise).

  1. Sales skills, customer service, dealing with the public (and dissatisfied customers) are all things that these two jobs would have in common.  Probably cash handling and reliability, accuracy as well.  Talk about your attendance record (if it was good).  You have to highlight the transferable skills, not just your specific job duties.

Customer service skills would be in dealing with people in a friendly, courteous manner, having excellent communication skills, being able to find a satisfactory solution for a disgruntled customer and the steps that you take to do that.

Upselling or cross-selling would be another good skill, associated with sales.  For instance, in a bakery, you might ask if someone wants a to get a pie, along with the two loaves of bread they are buying, because it would make a great dessert tonight!  In a clothing department you might be expected to up-sell by encouraging them to "get this great shirt which is on sale" and goes really well with the pants they are purchasing.

    I hope this helps!

    Good luck!
