  1. Syrian or Golden Hamsters

    Scientific Name: Mesocritus Auratus

    Country of Origin: Syria

    Lifespan: About 2 years

Size and Weight: 20 to 25cm and 100g to 150g

Other Important Facts: Syrian hamsters are nocturnal and odourless. They spend mush of their time grooming and rearranging their cage. They have cheek pouches which they use to hoard food and then disgorge it in their nest. They can be found in many colors and in many different types of coats and patterns. A Syrian hamster is solitary and must be caged separately from the age of 8 weeks. AND HERE IS A PIC OF IT.

  2. Since you don't want a small hamster, get a Syrian. They are a lot nicer than dwarfs anyways. Do not go to one of the popular stores like Petco or Petsmart, because their hamsters are shipped in and they have no way to tell you how old they are. Also most of the hamsters that you get from those two stores end up dying from wet-tail. Wet-tail is a disease when they are taken away from their parents too soon and don't get the nutrients they need. I got two from Petco and both died in a year.

I hope you find your hamster!

  3. I have a fluffy golden Hamster-she is so cute and funny.  If you hold them (after giving them a day or so to settle in with you) they can some become tame

  4. a syrian hamster! their just the same as teddybear, panda, black bear ext. ext... their alil hyper as babys but get alot calmer and their the easiest to hold.. their also highly recomended for first time hamster owners.. but remeber that these hamsters are VERY territorial when it comes to other (small or somtimes big animals) around his or her cage.. i own 2 syrian hamsters and their GREAT! their both only 2 months. they nevr evr see each other at all eithr!! in fact.. i dont evn kno if they kno each othr exist! haha.. anyways. if u ask me.. the syrian hamster is the way to go. hav fun and good luck!!

  5. I like syrians the most, the long haired ones. =]

they are very sweet, much bigger, and easy to tame.

Syrian Hamsters are wildly popular as housepets due to their docile, inquisitive nature and small size. They are popular as "first pets" for young children, as well as being classroom animals, because of their hardiness and relative ease of care. Some pet owners find them more attractive than rats and other rodents due to their lack of visible tails. However, their lack of tolerance towards each other is seen by some as a drawback.

    A male "Teddy Bear" Hamster

Red-Eyed White hamsterMost hamsters in American and British pet stores are Syrian Hamsters. Originally, Syrian Hamsters came in just one color — the mixture of brown, black, and gold which gave them their "Golden" name — but they have since developed a myriad of color mutations such as cream, white, blonde, banded, tortoiseshell, calico, and sable. Therefore, in pet stores today, Golden Hamster is only used to label the original coloration (also known as agouti). Other-colored short-hairs are banded under the label Fancy Hamster. Teddy Bear is a term used to describe the long-haired variety of the Syrian Hamster, named so for their remarkable resemblance to toy teddy bears. They are also sometimes known as "angora hamsters". The fur on a long-haired hamster is thick and fluffy, like a cotton wool, rather than the velvety feel of short-haired fur. For this reason, people who are not allergic to short-haired hamsters can be allergic to long-hairs. Male teddy bear hamsters usually have much longer fur than the female variety, culminating in a "skirt" of longer fur around their backsides. Black Bears are a recent off-shoot of teddy bear hamsters (mutation discovered in 1985), the major difference being their black-colored fur. It can be argued that black bears are just black teddy bears rather than their own breed; on the other hand, black bears were originally selectively bred for their larger size and more docile nature as well as their color. However, in current stock, this may or may not still be the case.

  6. well my hamster just has 11 babies i would love to give you one there teddy bear hamsters super cute lil things. but how ever i cant cuz you are prolly half around the world or something and im in new york and i dont like shipping animals.. so when you go to the pet store you should get a teddy bear hammie i think that would be best!

  10. I currently have a Teddy Bear hamster...hes my first hamster, and teddy bear hamsters are pretty regular sized hamsters. Much bigger than dwarfs. Another hamster thats good for first timers are Golden hamsters. They are about the same size as the Teddy Bear hamster, maybe a little smaller. Both hamsters are pretty easy to take care of, and they both can be found at pet stores. i heard that if u put a male and a female teddy bear hamster together they may fight, as many hamster do fight.
