I want to take snowboarding or skiing lessons, but I'm not sure on what one yet. I have never tried either of them before. I am a bit of a scardy cat and am not sure if I can even make it off the chair lift! I will take lessons. Have any suggestions on which one I should choose?

  1. Snowboarding definetly, its so much cooler than skiing, too many people skiing. Snowboardings harder, but lifes full of challenges. You have more style and stuff on a snowboard. Also, its harder to stop on skiis. Don't be scared, everyone is when they try something new.

    good luck

  2. I think skiing is more fun.

  3. First, absolutely ignore anyone who says snowboarding is more difficult. That's a big lie. The truth is this:

Skiing is a very difficult sport that involves a lot of technique. Yes you can have fun skiing from the first day. But you will definitely look like a beginner at least for you first 30 days on the slope. If you cannot ski for more than 10 days a year, that could mean 3 years of novice which is quite a lot.

Snowboarding will feel more difficult in your first hours on the board. However, you will catch on much more quickly. With some good instruction, after only 5 to 10 days on the slopes you will be looking good. Ofcourse there will still be a lot of room for improvement, but a non-expert will not be able to tell that you are a beginner.

Your choice also depends on your age and your preferences. For example if you are interested in speed, absolutely skiing. Once you master skiing, it gives you a lot of control under speed. But if you're more interested in hopping around, a lot maneavours and plenty of show off, snowboarding amazing. There is no way you can have as much fun with skis in a half pipe sliding from side to side, unless you really put a lot of effort into skiing. With snowboarding, it is such an easy sport that after enough hours on the board that will come almost naturally.

I think the choice also depends on your age and how much time you plan to spend on the slopes. If you are really young and plan to spend a lot of time on the slopes, I say one should definitely start with skiing, and try snowboarding after you can easily handle an intermediate slope with skis. Contrary to common belief, once you are intermediate in skiing, snowboarding will help your skiing as well.

But if you are over a certain age or if you do not think you will have plenty of time on the slopes, that start with snowboarding. At first having you feet bound together will feel rather awkward and you migh think you will never be able to handle to board. But believe me, after only 4-6 hours of proper instruction and a few days of practice anyone can master snowboarding, and you can look like a pro to the novice eye after only 10 days on the slopes.

So there is no easy answer, it's all up to you ;-)

    Good luck :o)
