I don't know what to do about my pool RE: chlorine

Question

I have an above ground 18 x 48 pool. I started the season not using chlorine and just using SAF-T-SHOCK. The bottom of my pool seemed to get slimy so I decided to use chlorine. I shocked it and brushed the bottom.. it is clean and the water looks great.

Instead of liquid I decided to put the tab thing in the filter (yesterday).... I tested the water today and the chlorine level is at 0. I do not understand why..

What is the best thing for me to do?

Hi ..from what i can tell from our pool once it became slimy we used an algae remover which removes the slime, if you have too much of the SAF-T-SHOCK this can cause the chlorine to disintegrate ..we used something called pH minus ...we are in the UK though x
