I'm going to be entering my senior year in a couple of days and I have no clue as to what I want to do. My strong subjects are English and Math. I may be good at English, but I hate reading and writing. I am also ok at Science but not the greatest. I enjoy the outdoors i.e. camping, riding jet ski's and 4wheelers/dirt bikes. I love to hunt. I have worked as a lifeguard for the past 3 years and enjoyed that. Any help with different careers to explore would be greatly appreciated!

  1. You definitely shouldn't have a career in English if you hate reading and writing. Why try perfecting a subject you're strong in when you don't love it? You will most likely be doing that for the rest of your life.

You should try going for an instructor route. (I.e. teaching people how to dirt bike/ hiking guide/etc.)

Or you could try taking an online aptitude test (http://www.projectcareer.com/?code=PF1-) to see what your most inclined to and hopefully that gives you a ballpark range of various career choices for you.

I'm not trying to be mean or anything when I say this, but if you want a secure job I would try aiming for a college degree. A lot of successful people don't have one, but if you're unsure of what to do with your life I say apply to a college as an undecided major and maybe whatever you experience will help your decision.

    Good luck!

  2. An option would be to start work in a field of your interest.  Perhaps as a camp counselor, or hiking tour guide.  You'll gain more experience in the field than you would in a classroom.  You'll also find out if a career in the field is right for you.  Meanwhile you'll network with different employers and coworkers.  In couple of years when you're ready, go back to college with a better mindset of what you're striving for.

  3. Go to your Career Center and see if you can take some aptitude tests. Based on the answers, it could help you find something you'll really like.

You could also take your hobbies and make them into careers. Work in the retail environment selling sports and outdoors equipment. You could end up in management and eventually own a store or two.

  4. go to college and be a teacher or go into the service or start getting into 4-wheeler/ dirtbike races and tried to get sponsored or something..

  5. Many colleges offer a vocational interest test which many have found to be helpful./

  6. Perhaps teaching.  And I don't mean stuffy - in the classroom teaching.

Maybe be a p.e. teacher, its a really easy degree to get in college, and some schools will let you teach p.e. with only and AA in education/recreation.  (two year degree)
