I babysit a 19 month old girl, and she's a generally happy kid. But every time I change her diaper and put her pajamas on, she screams bloody murder, cries and gets herself so worked up. What is the reason for this? What should I do to try to stop it? (She's happy before I change her and after.)

  1. prolly cuz she knows ur getting her ready for bed and she doesnt like goin to bed. almost all kids do this my sister is almost 3 and still does it.  give her something to play with while you put her pjs on her or if shes still bottle fed give her the bottle while u put the pjs on.

    hope this helps

  2. My 21 month old is like that, he hates getting diaper changes. I think it's the cold wipes he hates.

Just change her quick, no big deal. Lots of toddlers hate diaper changes and getting dressed.

  3. she probably just doesn't like her diaper changed- she's using the only verbal skills she has developed at this point to let you know she doesn't like it

  4. Ask her other caregivers if she does this with them. My friends baby did that with me one time. Turns out that while she was at her dad's that week, she had constipation and it was probably burning where she had strained to p**p. Check for rashes also. Make sure to tell both her parents/guardians though just in case. And follow-up. If you think she may be being abused, it is a crime not to report it. Most states have a toll free number where you can report it anonymously. You don't have to know if there is abuse, if you think it's possible. You HAVE to report it.

  5. I babysit all the time, and many of my clients have the same problem. They get incredibly worked up every time they have to change. It's really nothing to worry about, either they want attention, or they just don't like it and decide to cry about it. Unfortunately, you just have to get it over with. If you want to, try telling her a joke and making her laugh about it.

    Good luck!!!

  6. my son does the same thing. I would try giving her a small toy that will distract her and also talk to her in a calm way... and make funny noises... it works with my son most of the time.

  7. Well,  me and my sister baby-sit all the time, and I've changed a couple of babies who hate it. That one person was right - the wipe might be too cold. I got this tip from my aunt, who has a 11 month old - If u think the wipe is too cold, get some warm water in a bowl, and before u wipe the babies butt, put it in the water to warm it up. If that doesn't work, then just get the task done as fast as u can.

  8. Does she do it everytime you change her or only at bedtime? If it's only at bedtime, it could be because she doesn't want to go to bed, let her pick out her pjs and try reading a her a story, if she does it everytime you change her diaper, she's just fighting with you, most toddlers do it, my son does it everytime I change him, i just pin his arms down with my legs and do it fast.

  9. ask her parent why the baby is screaming bloody murder!

  10. I'm sure she just hates having her diaper changed.  Some babies do!  I used to try making it into a fun time.  I'd slowly get the baby undressed and talk to him, tickle him, play with his hands whatever and slowly open up the diaper, asking the baby if the wipe was too cold and touch his stomach with it, etc...  It worked often, anyway.  Try to make it as fun and laidback as possible.  If that doesn't work, just try to get through it as fast as possible!  :-)

  11. Try turning on the tv to distract her

  12. When you're changing her, put your leg over her to pin her down and/or distract her with something.

  13. Dont fret... her problem is that she just HATES being changed! My 17 mos old daughter does the same!!

What you need to do is find her some toys something that will entertain her while you change her diaper, a book, a song, or all at once! when she starts crying divert her attention to sthg else... As for clothes/pj's etc maybe you could do it while she's standing up, she wont be that upset, she'll likely be running around in her diaper LOL but then putting on pj's wont take that long ...

    Good Luck!
