i bought a motorcycle from a guy on ebay and he signed the title over to me or whatever and now i CANNOT find the title anywhere. i turned this house upside down. am i gonna have to contact him and he have to apply for a duplicate title and then he mail it to me or what? i really don't wanna bother him anymore because it was such a big ordeal when he sold it to me in the first place (i was having trouble getting the loan and he had to file a non-payment through paypal. but i ended up begging him to still sell it to me) what would be the easiest route to take?

  1. I THINK YOU SCREWED UP

  2. Looks like you are going to have to get the seller involved again. As it is, there is no record (since you don't have the signed over title) of your buying the car. If you have a Bill of Sale it might help, depending on your state. If you don't, he is going to have to apply for a duplicate title. You can't do it, again because you have no proof that you bought the vehicle.

I suggest you contact the seller and be as nice as you can be, even beg him, to get you the title. Tell him you'll pay for whatever it costs and offer to pay him extra (remember, it's your fault the title was lost, not his). Maybe you could get his mailing address and just send him a nice letter and check (or money order). That way, it's harder for him to say no and send your check back.

  3. You could apply for a new title through you local DMV. They should be able to take care of it for you here in IIllinois I believe they cost about $65.
