  1. Get the epiphone since they are a sub-brand of gibson, because they make better acoustic-electric than ibanez.

  2. The answer is "none of them." Player Packs generally include a pretty awful amp and the price is inflated just because somebody had to "pack" all that stuff together.

Instead, go to any guitar shop that sells used acoustic/electric guitars and amps and find a guitar and amp that you like. You will get better quality gear for the same amount of money.

  3. as much as i prefer epiphones over ibanez's i'd have to tell ya to get the ibanez it looks to me like a better buy.

  4. I hear (I myself only have an acoustic) both are usually decent brands for a beginner. It's really a matter of what YOU prefer.

To quote the guy at my favorite music store: "When buying your first guitar your biggest concerns are comfort and price. You can get picky when you learn how to play."

I would suggest that you head back to the store (Also, don't be afraid to shop around for places to shop around. My favorite store is a small business in a tiny storefront that would have stayed invisible to me had I not been searching. I'm glad I picked that place, because everyone there is insanely helpful and very friendly.) and ask an employee (I know I just said it, but I can't stress enough how important it is to find a store with good staff.) what they think. A good store would probably not only offer suggestions, but let you hold the guitars, strum a little, and decide what you like (I'm tiny with short arms, so I sat there for about half an hour as the super cool salesperson handed me guitars of all different shapes and sizes, explaining the advantages of each, until I found a comfortable one that felt good to play.) Don't be afraid to ask all the questions you want -- if they're going to take your money, you should both know the product.

Note: If you also want to learn how to play, you may want to ask if the store offers lessons. It's just more convenient than scouring bulletin boards, and usually cheaper (I have weekly in-store lessons with a great teacher for about $100 a month.)

    Good luck and happy shopping!

  5. Get the Epiphone starter pack. It should be not more than $200 max and if it is, don't buy it or order it online.

The Fender squiers are also good but personally, i prefer the fat sound of Epiphone. You may want to change the strings and replace them with .009 extra light gauge. This way, it is easier to bend, easier to press since you are a beginner, and the sound is more in line with today's music.

Don't worry about truss rod adjustment. They are factory set to accomodate .009 and don't let anybody tell you otherwise or try to charge you an extra $40.
