I really love acting, dancing & singing Ive been in musicals and ive joined an acting agency.

But i get good grades in the academic subjects and i was thinking of going into architecture, its just im not sure i want to do that for the rest of my life, but I know it can earn a lot.

Ideally i'd love to be an actress but i know many people don't make it big and end up with little money.

I really don't know what to do or maybe i could do architecture but act in my spare time...........

please help!!?!?!?

  1. If you go into architecture, you will have no spare time.

Architecture students work days, nights, weekends, and holidays.  They don't sleep.  They don't eat.  They don't have friends outside of their major.

What's more, architects don't make that much money.  They do it for the love of the game.

My advice to you--if you don't LOVE architecture, don't even start.  It will not work out as a side project.  It will be your life or it will be your existential bane.

That said, my last roommate loved acting and singing and dancing, but decided she need something more "real" to major in.  In my opinion, giving up her love was the biggest mistake she could have made.  Not only was she unhappy in what she was doing, she made everyone else unhappy with her stress, problems, and frustration.  She is failing at it--literally--because she doesn't have a heart for all the work she's piled on herself.

Go for it, sister.  At the end of the day, money is money, and a degree is a degree. A degree in theatre can get you an office job.  And who knows? You might find out that you're really good at set design while you're there.  Or stage lighting.  Or theatre management. Or 3D animation.

College is all about discovering what you enjoy and what you're good at.  And so long as you're there, honestly pursuing both of those, you'll do great.

  2. Sounds like you know what to do but need some reassurance. Go with the career where you know you'll make money and save while acting part-time. Especially since your good academically you could act while studying toward your degree. This way your able to cover your expenses while doing what you love. Also consider meeting with a guidance counseling at school or someone that you know and trust to give good advice, have them help you a create a detailed life plan. This way you'll know where you're going and what you need to get that there. I'd said stick with the acting agency but no matter what, make your education and financial stability prior. No reasonable goal is unattainable, much success in your endeavor!
