I don't like Jim Rome but I have to give him props for covering Pavlik/Taylor 2 all week?

This has to be a sign that boxing is on the up swing when guys like Jom Rome are covering a boxing story that doesn't involve Mike Tyson. Your thoughts?

  1. Awww man.. What is wrong with Rome?? I love his show.

  2. Rome always covers boxing, some of his best interviews have been with boxers, I think. And it is a good sign.

Side note: You really need to listen to him for a while to "get it" at first I thought he was a jack a** but now I listen everyday.

  3. I agree completely with what you said. Boxing is most definitely on the way up.  Its the MMA people that started the whole boxing is dead thing to help promote themselves.  Just think De la Hoya vs Mayweather sold more PPVs then any fight in the history of boxing and the Jones Jr vs Trnidad fight sold more PPVs then in any other fight of Roy Jones Jr.  As for Jim Rome I can't stand that guy.

  4. Anyone that comes on his show gets good coverage.  If Pavlik had not agreed to an interview, you just know Rome would have had nothing to do with this fight.

He derides Terrel Owens all the time, yet praises Chad Johnson.  They're both jerks, but Johnson does the show.

  5. Jim Rome has always been a pretty big boxing fan, and has always given love to the sport.  I think that the De La Hoya/ Mayweather, and the Mayweather/ Hatton fights have gotten boxing back into the mainstream more than it has been in years.  I honestly think that the UFC and MMA fighting has become somewhat of a fad, and their popularity spiked at first but has come back to earth so to speak.  Boxing seems to be holding its own again, thank in large part to the middle and lower weight classes whom have been bring together bigger names and bigger fights over the past couple years.  I say GREAT for boxing, and I think Taylor takes the remath...who's ready for Taylor vs Pavlik III come October-November?  I think Pavlik is taking this fight too lightly.

  6. Let me see Rome cover the Marquez/Pacquiao fight next month for a week and I'll tell you if I can give him props then. The Pavlik/Taylor fight could be huge if compared to their first fight. Why can't the same thing be said for Marquez/Pacquiao 2 when they rumble in March? Lets see how Rome covers that fight(which could get hyped for fight of the year) before giving him props.

  7. A friend told me he opened his  t.v. show today talking about Pavlik -Taylor and he picked Pavlik by kayo. I have listened to him since 95' and he is a big boxing fan who tells it the way it is. He has had Lennox Lewis on God knows how many times and he had Holyfield on one time but u really couldn't understand what Evander was saying. Rome has a huge following and when he hypes a fight like he has with this one the p.p.v. buys and general interest will spike. And great fights like this and the great fights last year are proof boxing is on the up swing. ''Welcome to the jungle''
