I especially don't like the emo stuff. What is up with it? I don't think I quite understand what emo means; it seems to be used constantly for a variety of things.

What is the difference between goth and emo? Besides perhaps skin pigmentation?

  1. If I'm not mistaken EMO is an androgynous punk style where is goth is Gothic.  Goth can be punk, black metal, or viking and black mixed. Goths don't usually go for an androgynous look.  That seems to be the big difference.

  2. They are both *** clowns.

I found this to help you, myself, and anybody else that is clueless on emo.

  3. most people think emo is people that cut themselves and want to die and goth as people that wear black all the time

  4. Goths mean it. Emos are just posers.

  5. Emo means emotional. Most emos don't even know that.

Goths they just wear black and look scary/tough. Emos tend to look very feminine no matter what their gender is.

  6. I don't know. Emos and Goths both annoy me. I don't even think most kids who claim to be emo actually cut themselves and what not.

  7. The whole emo/goth thing is weird to me. Not how they dress or what they listen to but just the movements themselves. It's become a weird fad.

I think emo was originally a music movement(I think it still is somewhat)but things like goth and scene are more about fashion and general lifestyle.

Goths, in my experience look like this

They are famous goths in my area and absolute sweethearts to boot. If you watch Amazing race then you've probably seen them.

edit: I found these links, I know it's wikipedia and they aren't the best source, blah blah blah but I think they do the best job at adequately defining both subcultures.

  8. Emos are very depressed for seemingly null and void reasons. They have security in their lives but cut themselves. I do not agree with the label myself as some people do indeed suffer depression despite what they have in life, it is a mental illness and it trivialises and dismisses the sufferings of others which can lead to suicides and many things from the thoughtless others who deride and insult the emos apparently faux melancholy. It is just another dehumanising and dismissive label and is harmeful. Goths are different and have a different taste in music and are not necessarily emotionally problemed, they just like the macabre

  9. I don't like labels either. Labels like, Republican, Democrat, Liberal, Conservative, Feminist, etc..

Have you ever noticed that other people tend to give us these illusive labels?
