  1. Yes, keep it simple!!  Also, if you sweat alot..like I do during the heat..use waterproof mascara!!

Hair also neds to be done nice..if long, in a bun with a hairnet and some people use a bow or clip at the back.  Small earrings..nice, clean and fresh looking..like it is a piece of cake!!

Do a search on google perhaps for western magazines or go to a photographers site that specializes in western shows and look at the proofs..through AQHA or any breed registry that has western classes.  Or on-line tack and clothing stores..to look at the way the models are.

    Good Luck

  2. im a guy but i do show horses and have seen the women show before i western pleasure. they just put on make up to look nice, dont cover your whole face to look like a clown. jus put it on as if goin to a nice place and where a western shirt and so nice pants and a cowgirl hat of helmet if you are under 18

  3. Look for waterproof mascera and eyeliner.  Keep any eyeshadow in the neutral color ranges, mostly in the browns to keep a natural look.  Some people do use lipstick, but be careful on that.  It can get a little overboard.

  4. keep it simple,  you want a clean neat appearance, notthing that looks like a run way model or  is overly flashy.

  5. Much depends on whether or not you're showing inside or outside, and the time of day, or evening.  I've seen exhibitors go for a little more dramatic effect if showing in the evening hours in an indoor arena.  A little more emphasis on eye makeup, blush and lipsticks...you're still a very long way from the judge and your face won't disappear under your hat, particularly if your hat is a dark color.

Daytime demands a lighter touch.  Particularly in an outdoor arena....remember, you don't want to look like a "clown" with blush or eyeliner.  A lighter touch is best.

Take a look at some of the models in Sergeant's Western Wear on line catalog....You'll see makeup that is appropriately done for the show pen.  There is emphasis on eyes, blush and lipstick......

The model in the link below is Carol Metcalf, who wears her show apparel impeccably and is a top ten trainer of WP horses to boot.    Her makeup is always beautifully done.

Her face never disappears under her hat...she's very careful in how she coordinates colors near her face.
