Question:

I don't really get along with my roommate...?

I’m not very social, but she definitely is. She’s always having people over for dinner (I feel unwelcome in my own kitchen), over to drink, over to do homework. I’m kind of uncomfortable all the time, and I feel so awkward around her friends. But the thought of even mentioning this to her makes me more nervous. I know it’s her place too, but I just wish the social visits would minimize.

  1. Did you move into her place - or did you get the place together?  If you moved into her place - then you made a mistake.  If you got the place together - then you did not do your research.  I guess you had better make your room a comfy place to be - because that's where you will be spending your time.

  2. MAYBE YOU NEED TO FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE TO LIVE. WHERE YOU CAN FEEL COMFORTABLE!

  3. You should invite her to come hang out with you outside your house some time.  Like, maybe go a movie or something.  This way, when you walk into your kitchen and there are people in there, you have something you can bring up with her, and hopefully the other people will join in your conversation with her.  This will make the encounters less awkward, and you might just end up becoming friends with the people she has over.

Also, make sure you always introduce yourself and act friendly.  Whether you want to be around these people or not, you want them to have respect for you and your things if they are there all the time.  There is nothing you can do about her behavior, as she is really doing nothing wrong, so you would be wise to make the best out of it until your lease is over.
