Question:

I don't really have any work experience, what should I put on my resume?

I've had babysitting jobs in the past, and other little things I've gotten paid for, but nothing steady like a store job. How do I put this in my resume?

Also, is there really a point to having "interests" on my resume? Are they looking at that?

  2. Hi.  Have you volunteered anywhere, including school?  Put that on there.  Explain what you did in those activities that you were involved with.  Instead of caling it "babysitting", say you managed a household for your neighbors while they were away.

If you excelled at school you can put that on there.

I'm actually not sure what type of job you're looking at landing.  If you're applying to stores and want a first job, you may not even need a resume.  Just filling out the store application will be enough.

    Good luck to you!

  3. If you're going for a first job, is it really the type of job that needs a resume? Working in a store or fast food place or doing other kinds of entry-level, low-paid jobs don't require or even expect resumes. You just fill out an application and put a couple of babysitting jobs as references.

If you're going for something that does require a resume, then do put at least two things on it that show some kind of experience. Babysitting is fine - you can lump it all together and put "various families" for the employer. If you did surveys or something on a one-time basis, and some of the skills could be used in the job you're going for, be sure to put that. If you volunteered, same thing. Even school activities can be used, if the skills relate to the job.

As for interests, if you have some interests that relate to the job, put them down! For example, if you want to sell clothes in a boutique shop, you can put fashion and people down as two interests. You can to put the Internet down, because it shows you have computer skills.
