I don't really know what computer engineering is...?

Question

I am a sophomore computer engineering major right now but I really have no idea what computer engineering is.

I don't even know if i'm interested in this field of study...I just know I think computers are cool and computer engineers make decent money haha

So can anyone enlighten me and use simple terms to tell me what computer engineering is? What kind of jobs are available after college? What exactly will i be doing? any other comments?

computers are amazing. the field is in demand and is no doubt, lucrative. computer engineering at large consists of two main sub-fields.

1. hardware engineering

2. software engineering

electronics engg. will lead you to h/w field. here, engineers design the systems to make them more fast, efficient, more capable,etc. wat kind of components to use, the power considerations et al.

computer science engg. will make you a s/w engg. it deals with programming. here, you write programs for a h/w.

for examples,

1. the h/w can be a computer and the s/w, the OS.

  here, you might work on algorithms say, to make search engines yield more relevant results(say, working in Google).
