I don't really know what to do...?

I adopted a puppy from a lady who found him on the side of the road and took him in (she believes he's 4-5months of age). When I picked him up, she gave me a paper that had the date and labels of each of his shots and when he had his dewormer pills. He's had his first 2 sets of shots along with 1 dewormer pill with each set, bu what I want to know is when am I supposed to give him his 3rd set of shots and the last dewormer pill she gave me? (He's my first puppy, sorry).

  1. Ask your vet.

  2. I would take him to the vet and ask.He needs his third set of shots but doesn't necessarily need a third dewormer (unless he still has worms)

  3. For the DHPPCvB shots ( distemper parvo and bordatella) they need to be given 2-4 weeks apart ( the series). So ifbhas hadtwo series of the dhppcvb then wait 2 weeks ( sooner the better because if you wait outside the 2-4 week window you habe to start all over again) and I'm not to familiar with the deworming pill but at my vet we do a 2 series of workers and they are 2 weeks apart. And since your dog is 4-5 months old it should be time for its rabies. As long as the pup has all the adult teeth and is over 4 months it can get its rabies shot.

    Good luck!

  4. Puppy shots are normally given about every three weeks.  Usually the schedule is 6 weeks, nine weeks, twelve weeks and 16 weeks.  So, if he is on his third set, he needs it three weeks after the last set he got.  The vet will send you a reminder card to let you know when he needs his last set or it should be printed on the receipt they give you.  As far as the de-wormer they should take care of that when he has his shots-just make sure you ask.

  5. Schedule a visit with your vet tomorrow.  A vet visit should be something that you do within the first week of getting a new dog regardless of where the dog comes from or how healthy the dog is when you get it.  Your vet will be able to recommend when to give the next set of shots.  Usually puppies get three sets of shots, but if your puppy didn't get vaccinated until he was 4-5 months old it may not be necessary for him to get a third round of vaccines (the reason puppies get a series of vaccines is because they will still have some immunity from their mother for several weeks after being weaned and their own immune systems will not respond to the vaccines before the acquired immunity from their mother wears off).  You can also ask the vet any questions you have about your new dog while you are there.

  6. Well Puppies are supposed to receive a set of vaccines every 21 days starting between 6-8 weeks old. Now if you say that your puppy is already 5-6 months old then you should take him to the Vet for the last set of vaccines that will include the Rabies vaccine.

Note: Remember to give him the heartworm prevention.
