Question:

I don't see Rockets, Spurs, Jazz, Suns, or Mavs as serious contenders next year?

The Rockets are still missing one big man to complement Yao. The Rockets need to put up more points because their defense is set

Spurs are in the same position the Rokcets are

The Jazz need a big man that can dominate the paint or hope Ronnie Brewer becomes a star

The Suns and Mavs are juts a collection of players right now on the defensive end.

The Lakers also are going to have trouble running the triangle against zone defenses against the Pistons or Celtics.

I don't know maybe these teams just might have a rising star to get them over the top or possible trades later this summer.

What do you think?

  1. LAKERS VS BOSTON I'M CALLING MY SHOT RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. This is a joke right I see 4 of those teams being serious contenders.

Suns-Are clearly contenders in the west. The have new additions to the team Robin Lopez and Matt Barnes and both are defensive players look for the Suns defense to improve alot better this season.

Spurs-They are always contenders they will be in the mix because of experience.

Rockets-Are contenders when T-Mac and Yao are healthy. If they are healthy for a full season who knows how dangerous they can be in the west. Luis Scola is a perfect compliment to Yao Ming.

Jazz-The combination of Boozer and Williams will make them contenders every year they probably need a little help on the front line but they are condenders in the west.

  3. I agree with all of your teams besides the jazz: Utah has one of the most talented point guards and a shooter at every position, also they have ahrd workers off the bench in korver, harpring, and Millsap

  4. -I think Scola, will be a nice PF next to YAO, he showed vast improvements as the year went by...

That team is no longer the YAO and T-MAC show, they actually have a group of players, that play as a team...Even Rafer is playing the best ball of his career, Battier is always a nice option to have, and you got to admit Alderman did a great job coaching his first season

  5. i agree about the suns/mavs that window has closed but the spurs are always in the mix and the jazz have all the pieces in place to make a run ......in the west the number 1 seed is always up for grabs the bigger question is can the hornets match last season and because of their D the rockets are contenders if yao and t-mac can avoid serious injuries rockets will be a tough out.......as far as the lakers if they make no major changes to their roster because of their lack of tougness and poor team defense they wont make it back to the west conf finals.

  6. i still see rockets, spurs, jazz as contenders..

but suns and mavs no way..

mavs shud have won it in 2006 wen the refs cheated on them.

and the suns could have won it all easily when they made it to the west finals without stoudamire(he was out the whole season, and they still were the 2nd seed)

    they lost their chances.

if i was them id start rebuilding lmao.

  7. Have you been watching basketball for the past 10 years? or just the 07-08 season only? The mavs and suns have been the most dominant for the past years and have been the most suprising of all.  If the rockets had yao then they would have gotten far in the playoffs this year.  Now that yao will be back for next season the rockets will be a better team.  The spurs won a title last year and a game and a half away from the 1st seed this season and now all a sudden they wont be a

    serious contender next year?

Last season no one predicted the lakers to be true contenders until after the Gasol trade.  And others were doubting the Celtics.  So you never know what will happen next season

  8. the JAZZ will deffinatley be there

  9. are u freakin crazy man? what is wrong with you? the suns, spurs and mavericks have ruled the west for years and ure saying jus cuz they had a a bad 07-08 season they are done for good? who are you, god? let me tell u somthing son, i hav been a dallas fan all of my life and i think all those teams u posted up their hav equal chances at winning the WEST.

if u do not recall, the top seeded LAKERS and 8th seeded NUGGETS only ha d adifferential of 7 games, thats nothing. it just goes to show that each team has a close rank of success

and dont go hating on the spurs. even though i hate them, they are still amazing=no matter how old or boring they can kick a**

  10. 1 thing is for certain. you can never count out the spurs. no matter how old or boring they may be, theyre always a great team. the jazz will also be strong. the rockets are just unfortunate with injuries. if tmac and yao are both healthy, they should be a threat as well. i can see the suns or mavs dropping off though.

  11. 1.  Jazz needing a big man that can dominate the paint is already Carlos Boozer, 21ppg and 11rpg is good numbers for a PF.  Okur is their center averaging 14.5ppg and can shoot the 3.  Then of course, AK at #3...If you ask me they have a great frontcourt that can give any NBA team some trouble, including Lakers!  I honestly think the Jazz can go all the way to 60 this year!

    2.  Spurs are very tough, a veteran team, has size with double double duncan, ginobli, parker.  They still play the fundamental basketball, and they could still make NBA finals 2009.

    3.  Lakers need Bynum to be healthy, with him healthy I doubt they will have any trouble against any zone defense!!!

    4.  Yeah suns and mavs are very questionable to make it past the 1st round

    5.  Houston Rockets got Scola at 10.3 ppg, but they need to resign Landry for backup PF.  Joey Dorsey and Donte Greene are still inexperienced players.  Dorsey has missed a lot of free throws, and Greene is a shooter, not in the paint much!!!  Landry is all about hustle off the bench, he has helped the rockets to a 22 win streak, scored some 20+ point games off the bench, etc...Barry was a good pickup, im sure Yao and McGrady both know they need to be healthy AND contribute in the 4th quarter...they got to carry this team, they got rookies and role players...thats it!

But the rockets are still going to fold in 1st round, unless Ming magically develops an offensive game.  They will continue to fold in 1st round even after Tmac leaves, or not make playoffs.  Definately the black horse team out of the rest of the NBA!!!

  12. What are you talking about?

  13. Rockets could be, if they stayed healthy. I though they have good chance this year when added some bench player, making a deeeeep bench (and it's actually a great bench). Starter, they're pretty good, Yao continue to do his thing, but he injuried himself. T-Mac (or everyone, even kobe) is not capable carrying the team into the victories in the postseason. Spurs, they'll continue thier winning tradition as long as Tim averages a double double. Suns, they would be much tougher since they added Robin Lopez for defensive purpose and the big man depth. Mavs, idk, J-Kidd's gotta step up, if not, they might not even make the playoffs.

  14. I think the Lakers are going to win the championship next year as long as Bynum stays healthy.
