I don't think Filipinos are Asian, Pacific Islander or Latino?

Seriously, we are a unique race. Most Filipinos look different, some look like Latinos, some look like Black People, some look Chinese. I think we should not be called either of the three, we should be simply called Filipinos.

  1. We are Pacific Islander :D

  2. I'm surprised with your observation!

I never had a problem like yours anywhere I went. They may think I'm Chinese or Japanese at first, but when I tell them I came from the Philippines, they immediately refers to me as a Filipino.

Maybe some Filipinos are trying to hide their identity and are ashamed to be known as a Filipino, that's why other people are confused in what to call them.

We shoul be proud of our being Filipino! It's the only way to gain respect in the international scene.

  3. have the idea copyrighted.. i think that's brilliant.. =) anyways i think not a single race is actually a pure one.. i think what makes each race distinct from another is the mixture of 'blood' that comprises it.. so i think your theory does not apply solely to the Filipinos.. but i like the idea, however, it just gives the impression of superb distinction that leads to isolation.. we are all related somehow anyway..

  4. i think filipinos should be classified as SWINDLERS.

  5. i agree...because among the southeast asian countries we're the only country that has four cultural heritages...we're mixed with american, japanese, malays and spanish...that's why we look the best!!! you agree?

  6. yes, agreed. Pilipino din ako! :) We are mixed with different blood, cultures, etc..

  7. Sometimes we refer to you as Asian, because we cannot tell the difference.  Only when we know for sure, would we say Filipino.

Some people think I am Australian, but I am not, I am English ;)

  8. I don't mind the term Asian, we are after all geographically in Asia. The label does not simply refer to our looks and our ethnicity, but also to our point origin. And that origin is the Philippines which is undeniably in Asia.

Nonetheless, I see your point. Filipinos are unique and they do stand out in Asia, but it would be unfair to have a classification all to our own. For the sake of peace and equality, I don't mind being called an Asian.

After all, Asia is a rich and mighty continent, with culture and heritage that we should all be proud of.

  9. Malays

  10. For one, geographically, we cannot arugue that we are Asians. The physical looks due to many factors (like previous colonizations by Spain, USA and Japan, Proximity to other neighboring Asian countries, and in more recent times further inter-marriages with other races) cannot alter the fact that we are categorically Asians.

  11. I can understand your argument but have to disagree. Filipino blood is quiet mixed as we know but they would have to be called Asian because of the region they are in. For example white Europeans in Australia aren't called Europeans they are called australians because thats where they reside. Americans too. You get my drift but people these days don't call Filipinos asians they just call them filipinos as its a more polite way to designate where one comes from.

  12. we are the descendant of an alien family from mars.

  13. actually we are asians, coz we are part of the south-east asia, most flips think that we are pacific islander coz we are the farthest country to the right i guess? but we are asians thats why we are part of the SEA games (South east asia games). BUT i agree i want our ethnicity to be called filipinos. But one time i was registering for this comm college and the question about ethnicity is you should pick one ofcourse and the choices wer caucasian, pacific islander, asian, hispanic, middle eastern, and Filipino. I SWEAR TO GOD.

  14. Well, the Philippines is not a homogenous group. . .

The negritos are most closely related to the highland new guineans.

The northern kalingaiian and Igorot are probably most closely related to a group from the Indian subcontinent, but far removed.

The bulk of the indiginous people south of that most likely originated from Formosa, before Formosa was overrun from the chinese mainland.  Then there are the heavy Chinese and spanish influences from colonization over the last millenium.

The Philippines is home to more than half of the languages which share a common australnesian root, which include indonesian, some malay, lowland new guinea, and all of polynesia.

So ethnically, the Philippines is a melting pot, and it was the crossroads for the Australnesian diaspora which colonized the pacific and asian islands.

  15. filipinos isnt one race some are mixed of native anncestory with other asian anncestory some are mixed with spanish some are of spanish anncestory some have mixed with white americans some are of american white anncestory, filipino is a nationality thought there are natives which can be considered asian i would guess

  16. Haha

Yea to me some look like Latinos & some like Asians.

But they r Pacific Islanders :D

  17. i guess so..

they should label us as "Filipinos"..

  18. yes, good observation.

  19. People... Don't make it complicated as it is... We are Asians. Period. Be proud of it. Being who you are, makes u unique...

  20. You are not alone in this observation.

Most  US States also agree, go fill up an application form where there are predominantly many other cultures living together & you are bound to see the options under Ethnicity: Hispanic, Asian, Pacific Islander, African American, Filipino, etc. etc.

But geographically we are considered Asian.

  21. not latinos; not pacific islanders; we're simply asians

  22. I disagree.. It is exactly THAT kind of thinking (besides of oil greed) that leads to wars between different cultures and Nations... I would consider everyone to be a citizen of the world, regardless of looks and "origin".

It is not what you are, but what you can do that defines you.

  23. Quite right.   You've hit it on the nail, my good ....  colleague.

We are neither this and that,  or that there not.

We are an irregularity.  An abnormality.  A glitch in the system.   We are a race of "Neo Andersons"  ready to take on the Matrix.
