Sounds kind of weird, but it's true. I am a huge animal lover, especially dogs. Well, tonight my sister came home and told me to go outside with her.. so I go. She continues to tell me she hit a dog! The first thing I asked her was if it died and if she stopped. Her answer was I didn't stop, but I think it died. This is not the first animal she has hit, she has previously hit a deer and a duck! Didn't stop for the duck either, but did for the deer. She upsets me so much!! But yet, she says every time she hits an animal she cries. I guess I am ranting now, so.

Have you hit any animals it your driving history? Did you stop?

  1. I've never hit an animal, I've saved turtles a couple of times.

I pay very close attention to the road, sounds like your sister should improve that area.

  2. i havent but i wouldnt be able to look at someone the same if they hit an animal either. its like, have some heart. jeeze.

    poor dog :(

  3. I've hit a deer, two groundhogs, a raccoon, a couple birds, and some random small mammels.

It's a part of driving. You can't stop for everything and sometimes it's safer to hit the animal than swerve to avoid it. A dog or a deer or a duck is easier to replace, but a human life isn't.

  4. never hit any animals.

    thank god.

but the key is not to swerve.

if you swerve to miss the animal, you'll hurt yourself

    your car, or someone else.

  5. hahaha when my uncle and me were comin home from hunting we hit some fat old cat and fur flew all over the place HAHAHAHA!!!!! my cousin who was driving behind us rolled down the window and started pumping his arm and laughing and whooping. hahaha it was probly some 87 year old lady's 20 year old house cat that was her only friend hahahahahahahahahaha.

  6. Omgosh that's so mean.

No I have never ever hit an animal If I see an animal in the distance I make sure I stop.

Smack her with a bat or something.

  7. But what is she supposed to do?  Get out in the middle of the street and scrape it up and then what?  Bury it in the backyard?

Animals die every day on the roads.  Honestly.  It's not THAT big of a deal.  She's not hitting people, so we're OK.  So maybe she should be more careful, but whatever.  It's nothing to get upset at your sister over.

  8. I remember when my friend was telling me about a bird she hit, and she burst out crying.  She didn't pull over for it, either.  Sometimes it's just not the best option.

I wonder why your sister told you about hitting the animals.  It sounds like maybe she is an animal lover herself and had to get it off her chest.  Please lend her a listening ear and your support.  I'm sure she's going to punish herself enough, and besides, haven't we all done worse than accidentally hitting something?  Even considering the result?

  9. Hitting a dog and not stopping is cowardly -- she doesn't want to deal with the emotions from the dog's owner, or even her own emotions.  The owners will find the dog in the street, or may never find it -- it may be picked up by animal control and disposed of before anyone ever knows.  And, if she DIDN'T kill it immediately, she condemns it to lying in the street, suffering and dying in a great deal pain.  The LEAST she could do is call 911 and tell them.  If the dog is too badly injured, then at least it can be put to sleep and out of it's agony.

I had a dog that once jumped a fence and tried to chase my dad's car as he left for work.  She leaped into the road and was hit by an on-coming car, as I was running after her. The driver stopped, upset, and since I was too young for a license, she grabbed a blanket out of her trunk, helped me pick up the dog, and drove me to the vet's.  Luckily, the dog was only stunned, and had a broken leg.   But if she had just laid there in the road, unable to move, she WOULD have been killed by another car.

I hit a squirrel one time, but around here, they are just big furry rats, so I don't feel badly about that. :-)

  10. your sister needs to watch where shes driving and to stop and help the animal if she hit it . you should talk to her and express your feelings to her about this subject .

  11. Sometimes some people cannot stand to SEE something die and know that they can do NOTHING to help the animal, unless they have aloaded gun and can put it out of it's pain.

I am sure she did not INETNTIONALLY hit all of those animals, sometimes they will run right out in front of the car I have even had them to run into the SIDE of my car. Both dogs and deer.

  12. i wouldnt be able to look at her the same either, i moved out of the house for a week when i found out my dad had drowned a deer in his early days.

my mom ran over my cat and it died. i wasnt mad at her cause she couldnt see it, although i still miss my cat

  13. Yes, I've never hit a dog, But a few years ago my beloved "sam" was hit my a transport and it broke my heart. He got out of the house and ran across the road, as he was coming up he didn't notice the transport (he was driving very fast) and I seen it all, but I didn't know he was hit because there was a huge tree blocking until i looked passed the tree and there was Sam...It still hurts to think about till this day. The guy driving the truck turned around and appologized, and offered to bury Sam for me, Theres no way I could do that :( It was very hard to get over, and it still makes me sad to think of. It was unfotunate the man was drivng so fast and didn't realise Sam on the road, but it was very nice of him to stop, I appreciated it...well not at the time because I was so upset, but now i really do! He felt really upset, he was almost in tears...Yo should forgive your sister because she must be having a hard time with it too. Sorry I didn't mean to rant, I hope this helped! P.S I'm an animal lover too! best if luck :)

  14. Its not always feasable to stop when you hit an animal.  I dont think she meant to hit the animals on purpose.

Your sister may not have known what to do either for the animal.  She may have been scared that the dog's owner would try to sue her for vet care or something too.

I have hit small wildlife while driving..  raccoons run out in front of your car, etc.  I never hit them on purpose, there are times I have managed to stop to avoid hitting them..  but Im also not risking a car accident over an animal either.

When I did hit animals, no, I didnt stop.  What would I do?  Im not picking up an injured wild animal thats known to carry rabies.  I dont have a gun in my car, so I cant "put it out of its misery".

I havent hit a dog, just small wildlife.  If I had hit a dog, I probably would stop, as its someone's pet.  I'd stop for a deer, because you have to report them.

  15. Stop for what??? Maybe it's rabid and will bite you. I'd be super ticked if the dumb thing damaged my car. Those crazy animals need to watch where they're going or risk being mowed down by your sister.

  16. yea i hit my dog when he disobeys but i dont do it hard

  17. I don't think I have hit any animal. I hope not, I love animals.

I hope that if I did hit something I would pull over and try to help it unless I was scared (like a frightened deer could hurt you bad or maybe a angry dog).

Something like a dog definitely warrants a call to an animal rescue or something. I mean, that is likely someone's pet.

But still, any animal I actively try to avoid hitting it, unless I'm going to cause an accident.

Tell your sister one of these days one of their bones is going to poke through her tire. Maybe she'll avoid them for that reason at least.

  18. thats horrible... ive never hit an animal, but if i did, definatly would stop....she should pay more attention, maybe next time it could be a person

  19. In my driving history, I once hit a pigeon ---I was driving downtown and it flew into my windshield--- and I didn't stop for it.  And once, while visiting my ex-fiancee, I saw a truck hit her cat. The critter had just enough life left in her to crawl back into my ex-fiancee's yard. Your sister appears to be insensitive to animals. (Google the song "I Didn't Know the Gun Was Loaded".)

  20. I hit a squirrel one time and cried for 3 days. ): I didn't stop, but I slowed down. I tried very hard not to hit the poor little guy, he just ran right under my wheel. He didn't have a chance and I didn't want to traumatize myself by watching him die, so I kept on driving. When I looked back, there were a couple people running towards him, so I felt better about leaving. It ruined my whole day.

I have a huge heart when it comes to animals. I've cried more for animals than I have for humans. I don't blame you for thinking about her differently. I would do that same thing.

  21. Neither of my parents have ever hit animals. Once a couple of years ago, me and my mom were driving to my grandpa's house from somewhere, my mom almost hit a possum but she swirved and almost hit another car. Then this time when we went(We just came home from there. He lives in GA and we live in CA), we were going to the grocery store, my mom almost hit a turtle. Therefore, I would have to call my parents careful drivers. I don't drive though. I'm too young.

  22. your in the wrong categorry and my dad has hit bout 50 squirls/chipmucks at least one deer and a cat or two maybee one dog... he only stopped for the deer and dog.

  23. ive had ..i killed my dog accidentley..i didnt sleep for like 2 days thinking it will come back and haunt me

  24. Yes, I've hit animals. A couple deer, pheasants, birds, a squirrel, a skunk. No, I didn't stop. What can a person really do for a dying animal? I think for your own safety, it would be best to not approach an injured wild animal. You are supposed to call your county sheriff if you hit a deer, and I have done that.

Thank goodness, I've never hit a dog or cat. In that case, I think I would stop since a dog or cat is probably some body's pet.

I hate hitting animals! It breaks my heart. I even hate when I have butterflies stuck to my grill.

  25. LOL for a minute i was like... er, s**t.

  26. I hit a bird the other day... well in all honestly... I think it hit me.

  27. Its not her fault. Would you rather her swerve to miss a dog and get killed herself, or hit a dog and be alive? Im as big of an animal lover as the next person, but seriously! Why would she stop, to see a dead dog laying there? I would see it and be sobbing, and then wreck and kill myself! I haven't hit any animals, but my sister hit a cat, momma hit a duck and my step dad hit a chicken...

Oh and my step dad hit our dog and crushed her pelvis, and she had to have her tail cut off... she's a shih-tzu. Now I was mad about that! I cried for days when he hit her..

  28. Well, My dad did, not just him but another driver coming from the opposite direction... the other car hit it first as the deer had popped out of nowhere from the other lane, and it tired to go back, i guess, but it was too late... so my dad hit the back legs and the other hit the deer's front body including the head... it was kinda sad and my dad stopped to help it out of the way and leave him somewhere safe... after like 3 minutes the deer got up and left... one of my sisters was crying but i told it would be alright, since it got up and left, it looked like he/her was fine... yeah my dad received a few kicks from the deer....
