I'm doing a science project on the five characteristics of life and one of the characteristics is: all living things are organized. (they have cells) I understand with how it relates to animals: cells = tissues = organs = organisms. But how does that work with plants?

  1. All living things are made up of cells, also plants.

Plants' cells are generally a little different but all cells have the same basic buildup.

  2. Characteristics of Plants

Most terrestrial plants (both bryophytes and tracheophytes) share some general structural and functional features. Plant bodies are divided into two regions, the underground root portion and the aerial shoot portion (including stem, leaves, flowers, and fruits). These different regions of the plant are dependent on each other, as each performs different essential functions. Land plants also share certain more specific adaptations that are essential to survival out of water. These include an impermeable waxy cuticle on the outer aerial surfaces, jacket cells around the reproductive organs, and stomata that allow gas exchange without risking excessive water loss.

Plants are also autotrophic, meaning that they produce their own food and do not use other organisms to supply organic nutrients the way animals do. Finally, the life cycle of plants follows a pattern called the alternation of generations, in which they fluctuate between haploid and diploid generations and sexual and asexual modes of reproduction.

  3. all living things need to

    Eat

    produce waste

    grow

    multiply

    die

....and that is about all I can think of.

Pants have organs, A stem or a leaf is an organ...Duh.

    cells = tissues = organs = organisms

Plant cell = plant tissue = leaf = Maple tree

  4. Same thing, God made plants and animals with cells. There are different types of cells in each organism.  Cells are built together to make tissues. Tissue is really just an ambiguous term for material. There is muscle tissue and bone tissue and many other tissues. The tissues make different organs. Each organ is part of a system. All the systems together make up the organism. It is the same for plants and animals.

Don't believe that this is all just an accident.

The more you study life the more God's glory will be revealed to you. He is a wonderful maker.

  5. Plants also have different tissues - eg. xylem, phloem, parenchyma, sclerenchyma - see link 1. & 2.for full classification and description

Plants also have organs - eg. roots, stems, leaves, flowers, storage organs etc. See link 3. for organs.

  6. plants are living things too so just as people or animals grow... they have to grow the same way. (:
