We all know that the horizon is where the sky meets the sea, but is the horizon the furthest that our human eye can see or it is that the earth has curved so much that we cannot see more than there is already. Or is it another reason?

  1. It is from the curvature of the earth --- you cannot see around corners.

We can see a lot lot further than the horizon. We can see the stars!!!

  2. The horizon is where the land meets the sky. If there is a hill say two miles away, then the horizon is two miles away. if you are standing on the hill then the higher up you are the further you can see, so the horizon will be further away.

  3. A 6 foot, 2 meter person should be able to see a horizon on a smooth sea of about 2 miles away. This is not exact, due to swells, landforms, objects above and below the 'horizon line', etc.
