  1. I know. It sucks.

  2. Your question is kind of like mine. I have NO idea why her scores are that high other than home team bias.

  3. Umm..let's see.  We get robbed again.  Chinese are getting scores that are ridiculous.  The judges are ruining the Olympics.  These are yet the worst.  Nice to know that you can fall and still get a 15 something.  Way to go.  China I hope you enjoy your unearned medals, because most were not rightfully earned.  Any other place and you would have LOST!

Also the girl from Brazil got a 14.7 for the same thing, actually she didnt even put her knees down.  Come on, you can't defend them.

  4. The commentators don't understand this either!

  5. this new scoring system favors if you try something hard but mess up terribly, something the chinese gymnasts are taking advantage of, itz absolutely ridiculous, they need to be scored just as hard for taking  risk on a harder routine

  6. The new scoring system is totally different from the old system. 1/3 of the points are now the result of difficulty level, while the other 2/3 is how well someone performs a technique (execution).

It was on the highest difficulty, and she scored 15 something...which is a bad score.

    For example:

    6.5 difficulty (max) + 10 execution (max) = 16.5 max

If you do everything right and mess up the landing, you get less than a single point deducted.

For Cheng Fei's case, she had around 1 point deducted because of the fall...which explains why her score was in the low 15's

  7. If anyone listened to the commentary...

Cheng Fei lost .8 because she landed on her knees. But her start value was so high that That she was still better than Sacramone by .03 of a point. Totally valid.

HOWEVER...there should have been another execution deduction. If anyone listened to the commentary about how she was actually supposed to mount the vault, you would have heard that she had two twists that she had to manage before she even got her hands on the horse. She basically missed her mount due to the second twist. Her hands were splayed and she did not get the shoulder block she needed to get herself in the air (causing the landing). She basically messed up her mount, and that deserves deductions on her execution. We never saw the deduction for that, and is where I see an issue. Of course she fell on the landing - the landing itself was impossible because the entire sequence was not performed correctly, and so points need to be deducted for the first part of the vault.

  8. I really don't understand how that happened. Alicia Sacramone should have gotten the bronze instead of her.

  9. My friend, I'm even confused. Alicia should had that bronze medal and I say she got ripped off.

    Good luck

  10. this is bull .. im sooo pissed.

  11. she had the highest difficulty, she did get the 8 tenth deduction. she would have gotten a 16 if she didn't fall.

Like some of the guys say that answered this question say, it IS simple math. Multiply start values with deduction.

    EDIT: http://sports.yahoo.com/olympics/beijing...

“The difficulty of the two vaults added up together was a huge difference between third and fourth place,” he said. “(Cheng’s) execution scores were as low as 8.5, which tells me that the necessary deductions were made. It might look strange at first sight, but if you look at the rules and the regulations, everything is as it should be.”

  12. Cheng Fei Score:

    1st Vault: A 9.5 B 9.6

    2nd Vault: A 8.4 B 8.6

    Alicia Sacramone

    1st Vault: 9.40 9.50

    2nd Vault:  9.50 9.50

Simple math. Cheng Fei's first value's start value and execution made up the difference in the average. Sacramone edged out by 3 one hundreths of a point. Oh well. Sacramone should have decided to throw a higher vault. Had Cheng Fei not fallen she would be champion even with minor mistakes. She is not the three time world vault champion for no reason and it was expected that she would dominate here.

    As far as Brazils vault:

    Jade's scores:

    Vault 1:9.00 8.70

    Vault 2: 8.60 8.70

Extremely low start value but the fall was deducted.

  13. They just had a interview with Bela Karolyi and Bob Costas and he was very upset that Sacramoni (sp?) was robbed of at least the bronze medal.  He states and rightfully so, that these are not qualifying rounds or preliminaries, that this was for the medals and the people standing on the medal podium should have done routines as close to perfect as possible.  Falling at the end of a vault is nothing close to perfect.  The American boxers have also been robbed because of judging errors and probably anti-American feelings.  My husband, a real boxing fan, has been watching the boxing and has been very disappointed in the scoring.  Even the announcers doing the play by play have been mentioning solidly landed blows were not being scored.

  14. Even the old gymnastics coach bela karolyi was just on tv with bob kostas in tears explaining that the judging errors are inadmissible and wrong. SHE FELL ON THE SECOND VAULT, she didn't even complete the d**n thing no matter how high the difficulty was!! BOOO

  15. She wasn't scored high. She barely scored over 15. What's your beef with the Chinese? She didn't "fall" she landed on her shins and quickly rectified the situation.

And maybe if Shawn Johnson didn't do the SAME floor routine every time and was a little more inventive, the judges might offer a higher score.

  16. Because her start value is a 6.5, for both of her vaults. She can afford to make a mistake and still get a "good" mark...

Sucks for Alicia, she should have thrown a higher start value vault for her 2nd one.. even with a fall she could have done better (maybe)
