Question:

I don't understand how the world is running out of water? Global Warming?

Everyone is saying how Global Warming is causing the earth to run out of water... This is what I don't understand:

Global Warming is making the earth's temperature get hotter, which evaporates a lot of water.

Though Global Warming is also causing the polar ice caps to melt....

But that makes more water? I think there is something I'm missing, please help me understand.

Thanks.

  1. all ice is fresh potable water and this is melting and running into the sea

most of the worlds fresh water is in the ice

so we are running out of drinking water

Many glaziers feed rivers all year round ,

when they are gone these rivers will dry up and are already doing so,http://byderule.multiply.com/video/item/...

25% of the planets surface is land

75%of the surface is water and it is rising

    ------------------------------...

97%of the Earths water is salt

fresh water is only 3% of all the Earths water

most of it is beyond out reach

STORAGE or Location of % of the fresh water

    ice and glaziers 74%

now much ice is melting and running into the seas fresh water lost for ever.

    groundwater 800 meters + 13.5 %

    groundwater less than 800meters 11.o%

    Lakes 0.3%

    soils 0.006%

    Atmospheric in circulation 0.0035%

    rivers 0.03%

frozen land or permafrost is not included and represent an unavailable storage of 40%

so of the 3% about 11.6 ,is easily available to us ,in rivers, lakes and ground water surface aquifers, more and more of this is becoming contaminated

overpopulation of an extra 70 million people a year (increasing all the time )and expanding agriculture ,which uses 70% of available potable water supplies ,has brought the good(sweet) water suplies to critical levels ,some countries have been in trouble already quite a while .

now climate change and desertification because of irresponsible agriculture ,overgrazing and deforestation is damaging world fresh water production .

it is a good reason for concern and if we do not rectify matters by changing agricultural methods ,reforest ,stop deforestation,

Become more economic with water use ,stop producing more people ,stop wasting and contaminating water, we will be in serious trouble all round

and could end up looking like Mars

  2. Global Warming  is a scam and it will cost U plenty. The water problem  is there is too many people on earth...

  3. Actually the ice caps is all fresh water. By having that melt it dilutes the salt content in the ocean bit by bit.

I don't know who told you that Global warming is causing the earth to run out of water. That is a lie. What it could do though is change weather patterns where in the past a land would get a lot of rain will now get very little rain on the ground and most of it in the oceans.

So you will get localized droughts in some places while flooding in others. But that's been happening since before man, so to say Global Warming is a reason for that is really pulling.

  4. The world is not running out of water.

In some particular places like Los Angeles and Las Vegas, there isn't enough water to support the number of people who live there, but there's the same amount of water there always was.

You're not missing anything, you're actually thinking about what some people are telling you and noticing that there are things wrong with their stories.

    Keep thinking!

  5. The world is NOT running out of potable water...and GW is a myth....promoted by the chicken littles of the world...so have no fear.....rest easy....the world is just fine...

  6. The world isn't running out of water, local municipalities are running out of potable water.  Put enough people in a small enough area and you're going to run out of local resources to exploit.  It has nothing to do with the Earth's climate, though many here would like to use it as an example to support their beliefs.
